Yes, it's genuine.

Yes. Used it for years.

Chewbecca · 31/08/2023 15:55

Yes. Not restricted by the usual FSCS limits either.

Wow, that is very good.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/09/2023 09:51

Yes, lots of people have Premium bonds with NSandI too. It’s a very well-known, totally legit and safe, government-backed way to save but for the last few years rates haven’t been great so not many bothered with them.

the new 6.2% growth bond is a very good rate, yes, and a large sum will be safe as not limited to the 85k FSCS that other financial institutions are.

It seems that the government want to knock the high street banks into offering more appropriate interest rates more in line with inflation. The main banks’ rates are just not good enough. Think they’ll be busy at the moment worrying about how to stop everyone withdrawing their money to move it to these NSandI bonds.

I’ve opened one myself and will open more when I have some other fixed rate savers expiring in January (assuming these bonds are still available then and it’s still one of the best rates). You can open multiple bonds no problem which people may have to do for very large sums depending on the daily payment limits their transferring bank has.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/09/2023 09:54

But, for people not familiar with saving large lump sums, don’t forget that a bond is just that. You are “bonded in” for the length of the term ie you cannot remove any money whatsoever during that time. So not for people who might need access to the money during that locked-away period.

Thanks op i didn't realise this

cathyj77 · 01/09/2023 18:25

It is an excellent rate - I'm seriously considering putting as much as I can afford to lock away in there.

ssd · 01/09/2023 21:07

But is it safe to just open one and transfer thousands of pounds?
What if something happened or you were scammed in some way? Does the transfering money in need to be done online?

It's not a scam, it's legit, you can transfer as much as you like.

mummymayhem18 · 01/09/2023 21:32

Yes its legitimate. I have accounts with them 👍😊

Twentytwo22 · 01/09/2023 21:37

I've been using them for years. Very easy to transfer money. Never had any problems.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/09/2023 21:37

NS&I stands for National Savings and Investments. It's not just backed by the UK government, it's owned by the UK government, i.e. the UK population. It's one of the ways the UK government gets funds together for public spending. There can't be a safer investment in the country. You just have to make sure you invest on the genuine website, as with all other online financial websites.

cathyj77 · 02/09/2023 13:19

I've gone for it. Makes me slightly nervous locking money away for any period at all, but it seemed mad to pass it up.

RettyPriddle · 02/09/2023 21:22

Great rate and all sums are protected. A good deal.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/09/2023 22:28

I did too. I’m not nervous. It’s fine. When you’ve made the mistake of locking away a large sum at 1.26% in the middle of 2021, for FIVE, yes FIVE years 😩 there is no financial decision that can match that for rashness. I think interest rates may rise again but I don’t think that NS and I will offer a much higher rate now. I think mainstream banks will. But they don’t come with the 85k FCSC protection.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/09/2023 22:30

I mean they don’t come with MORE THAN the 85k FCSC protection.

Ouch!

ShanghaiDiva · 02/09/2023 22:34

they are also offering an income bond at 6.03%.

caramond · 02/09/2023 22:35

For some reason their website doesn't accept my Natwest debit card so I can't use them. 😑 Has anyone else had problems with that?

ShanghaiDiva · 02/09/2023 22:37

no problem with my debit card

Butwhybecause · 02/09/2023 22:41

Could you invest a small amount to make sure it goes through ok then invest the rest? Or is there a minimum?

That's a very good rate of interest.
