Separating and have pension investment question - please help!

Hello, hoping someone can help me. I'm mid fifties and have 4 kids. My ex has moved out to a rented flat (he has a new girlfriend, the reason for our break up).

My financial situation is frightening - I'm a fairly low earner and I'm reliant on him to keep paying for the house and kids, which he says he will, though he's had to reduce the amount he pays, so it's a struggle now. We still have 16 years left on our mortgage and it's expensive. I think he may want to sell the house when the kids are a bit older - maybe in 5 years? So that's a big worry. The kids are likely to still need to live at home (they are teens and early 20s, one has serious mental health issues).

My main worry is my pension situation though. I only have £30k in pensions. But my aunt, who is like a mum to me, has come into an inheritance and wants to give it to me to put it towards my pension. It's for £80k. So generous of her!

But I don't know how to invest this money. I'd like to see an advisor, but I've looked online and the options are overwhelming. Does anyone have any advice, or could you recommend a really down to earth, trustworthy financial advisor who doesn't take a fortune in commssion and fees?

BTW I have £3k in savings for emergencies. Thanks so much.

If you could give a little more information on your existing pension arrangements - is the pension with your current employer? Is it a defined benefit or defined contribution scheme?
Are you up to date with NI contributions for your State pension?

How much do you earn? There are limits of how much you can put in.
How much does your ex have in pension savings and are/were you married?
If you are likely not to have secure housing in a few years, tying up all the money in a pension may not be your best option.

Were/are you married as if there is a consideration you may divorce and need a financial settlement that might change how you should move forward, especially if the money hasn't been gifted yet

Wait til you are divorced for her to give you anything, or he will be entitled to half of it
