Buying a house. When to get solicitor and when to get a surveyor

We've had an offer accepted we are now following up with the mortgage advisor. Estate agent also wants solicitor info. Is it common to do this first and get the ball rolling before we do the survey. Sorry this is our first time and there is much info. Would appreciate any advise on buying your first property and order or priorities.

Many thanks in advance.

Bumping this up as would really appreciate some advise. And a gauge on how much to pay for a good surveyor in London.

Thanks again

Get a solicitor first, I’d say it’s normal to instruct one as soon as your offer is accepted.

With the surveyor, we waited a few weeks to make sure all the paperwork started going through and the sale looked good before we instructed ours.

Hi OP, you might get more replies if you report this and ask for it to be moved to the property section.

But yes, that's completely normal. There are lots of things which need to be done and they happen in parallel so the solicitor would start getting on with searches whilst you or your mortgage lender organise the survey.

Have a read of this.

I don't pay the search fees until
I am satisfied with the survey report and have a mortgage offer.

Yes it is normal
