If you have an Aviva pension which funds are you invested in ?I have pension portfolio pre retirement one
My pension was set up a few years ago by a IFA and I haven’t done anything with it.
I have spoken to another advisor recently and they seem to think it’s invested well but I’m not so sure.It was performing quite well last year but I’ve just checked it and it’s only gone up 10% in 8 years !
I would like to retire in 9 yrs time when I’m 60.I’ve never paid anything into it but would like to start but have no clue which fund to invest in These are my funds I’m invested in The royal London accounts have lost the most.Any advice v much appreciated

If this is a DC pension you should probably move it to a SIPP in which you can invest in low cost index trackers and not use funds at all. Three quarters of all funds do not even match the return of indexes.

I imagine your fund performance will only worsen as you approach retirement age as you will probably be moved into allegedly safer investments.

Obviously if you have employer contributions to factor in or if it’s a DB pension then that changes things - as DB transfer value will probably be rubbish and you don’t want to lose employer contributions.

Thanks for replying
I will definitely have a read of the money saving pension forum
I think it’s a DC pension
it was set up a few years ago as part of a divorce settlement
How easy is it to move to SIPP and do you have any suggestions?
thank you

I can’t see the percentages but you seem to have quite a bit in ethical funds. They are generally more volatile and they also cost more. That Baillie Gifford fund did very badly compared to its benchmark and by itself lost over 20% in the last 12 months.

You can speak to Aviva directly and check what other funds they have available. Aviva itself is just a platform - that in itself says not much about your pension performance.
