How to sell shares

I received shares in SSE, after the merger with Scottish Hydro Electric and Southern Energy 20+ years ago (no longer with the company). Found the paper certificate 2 months ago (have had dividend paid twice yearly) and now would like to sell the shares now I know the amount I have (it's not a huge amount). I have no idea the process of selling. I only have the paper certificate, no other details. Any advice appreciated.

Do you have an online shares account? If yes, you can transfer the paper shares into that and sell like you would your electronic shares. If no, you can set one up with a firm like x-o.co.uk. They will transfer paper certificates into a nominee account ready for you to sell for fee of £5.95. You can then move the proceeds to your own bank account.

Thank you justbeweenus. No, no online share account at all, just a dusty certificate of shares. Thanks for the information, had no idea where to even start. Many thanks.
