Where to park £150k

Janif · 12/10/2021 16:19

I need a home for around a £150k for 9 months. I have £30k premium bond allowance left so could put some there. Otherwise Im not sure what my options are apart from bank current accounts?

Suggestions are appreciated.

Cash consolidator such as Flagstone.

NS&I have Direct Saver which can take up to £2million.

If you want a little interest, there are With Notice savings accounts but rates are not that great. So I would go with safety over interest.

Depends on your risk appetite but I would consider some in a stocks and shares ISA

Moneysavingexpert has the top rates though all pretty low at the moment. Only the first 85,000 is protected by FSCS so I woukd split it between two providers. Charter Savings Bank have some notice accounts like 95 days notice for 1.02%, also 30 day notice if you will have a bit of notice, all done online so quite easy.

I have a SSISA and investment account with Vanguard and its been quite volatile recently, I would not risk it for 9 months as you could make a loss. Its fine if you have a flexible date to take out on and can say wait a year if its dipped but not if say need for another property, recommended minimum time usually 5 years.

Frankly you'd be mad to do this if you are needing to take it out in 9 months. I'd go with the PB and savings options myself.

Marcus do reasonable interest (though it used to be far better) for a basic/safe savings account. I wouldn't invest it if you need it in 9 months

Thanks all.
I think safety trumps interest right now as I cannot afford a loss. Nsi feels a safe bet as protected.
