Where can I find a genuinely good IFA

I have a general mistrust of Financial Advisors after receiving some terrible advice in my 20's.

My personal situation is complicated and I'm at the point where I feel I need specific advice.

Where do I start? At the moment I muddle along reading the internet and posting on forums!

Do you need an adviser, or do you need a planner,?

Really old video (from 2010) but still good content:

If you don't know anyone who can recommend someone, I would search the Unbiased directory. www.unbiased.co.uk/
I would start by looking for a financial planner, having a chat with one and seeing if they can do all the things you want, as most likely you need help with the What To Do rather than someone who will Do It For You - financial planners will do it for you if you want but many will often do the plan, then let you implement it.

I work in pensions and deal woth a lot of advisers. Some are awful. One that always impressed however was a chap called Martin Bacon at Oculus, if he is still practising.

Look for an adviser that practises Lifestyle Financial Planning and will take the time to focus on understanding who you are and the lifestyle you are trying to achieve before they go anywhere near talking about your assets. You should have a much better working relationship with this type of adviser than one who appears to only be interested in managing your wealth for you.

That depends on how much money do you have

Ha! This is the main reason I am totally put off approaching a FA - I sense sharks circling.

Thanks for all your responses. I am going to look into approaching a Financial Planner as my situation is more complicated than usual.
