Hi,
My mum died just over 4 years ago, and about two months ago I received a letter sent to me and her at my home regarding an investment with the value of £20k.
I asked my dad and he knows nothing about these.
I did nothing with the bank when we lost mum so don't know where they got my details from, I have a brother and sister and they know nothing either.
Any idea on this? Does it sound a bit dodgy? If my dad knew nothing about these, would he be able to get access to them as executor? Why would the correspondence come to me?! I'm totally confused! X

Contact the bank on a number you get from their website, they'll ask you to send the death certificate and will/probate if it's legitimate

Thanks. Any idea why it would come to me if I had nothing to do with her banking and my dad knows nothing about it?

Are you the eldest child in your family? Is it possible that your mum took out some sort of insurance/ other investment when you were young and before your siblings were born?
Contact the bank (using a phone no from their website)and ask them for more details.

The investment is in joint names and therefore the bank should provide any information you need. If it is kosher you are named and just need to provide a copy of the death certificate. If they ask for any fee it will not be kosher.

It doesn't need to go to probate if it is in your name.

Thanks, managed to get to the bottom it. They had apparently been writing to my dad for a number of years and wrote to me in the end as my name was on the death certificate. It was a nice pre Christmas surprise for my dad, a little present from my mum.
