Pension Scheme Return Question

Last year i submtitted a Pension Scheme Return to HMRC in respect of my boss' SSAS pension scheme for the year 2017/2018 and I have realised recently that I made a mistake. The return is informational only but we still had to sign a declaration that the information is correct and prosecution is a possibility in the event of any false statements. I filed the return online and there is a facility to go in and amend it. My question is, can I amend the error without any risk of penalty? Thanks

With the best will in the world, why isn’t a qualified pension administrator doing this for him? SASS’s are a very technical product. ... unless you are qualified, then oops!

All that said, you can amend submissions. Unless there was intent I find HMRC very agreeable. I’d do it. Keep a file note.

Thank you for your advice! He decided that the return looked quite straight forward so asked me to do it as the administrator who looks after the scheme for him in other respects charges quite a lot. I really should have said no! I will go ahead and confess my mistake to him and make the amendment with HMRC.

Ha, that’ll be why they charge a lot Grin. At least he won’t ask again!
