How much does an IFA charge and has anyone employed one?

I'm not wealthy by any means.
Hubs and I own 2 buy to let's plus our main home.
Total property assets - £1.2m. Mortgages of £745 k plus pensions and cash of around £30k. Other debt -18k
Is it worth seeing an IFA in these circumstances? We have an infant daughter and I want her to be set in the event we die. Not sure if this more of an estate planning question however

I've successfully claimed for compensation for my MIL for being midsold an investment by an IFA.
So my opinion is not high. A friend had one but I didn't feel the benefit was worth the fees, she was invested in all the usual funds recommended by the press.
I'd write down my aims, which is to financially secure your daughter and any children's future. Accordingly take out insurance in case of your death or ill health to cover your debts and provide an income.
Then I'd build a cash reserve, pay off debts that aren't in a mortgage, then I'd invest into pensions/isa's for all the family, for the long term. If possibly pay into isas/pensions while paying off my debt depending on how reliable my income was.

I don't think it's an IFA you want - they would advise you on investing cash to minimise tax and risk but not much else. Possibly a solicitor would be more use - so that you could formalise your wishes for DD.
