Child trust fund accounts

Three of my children were lucky enough to get them from gov, 2 had £750, the younger one had £500.
The two oldest ones are with NatWest and in the time they’ve been opened they’ve only gained about £100!! The youngest I never got round to investing it, so it was invested for me to a company called pilling and co, astonishingly considering the youngest only had £500, that fund has gained £400+, meaning the value of that one is surpassing the oldest two even though the youngest is considerably younger.

I’ve requested a pack from pilling in order to move the two poorly performing NatWest ones to them, but before I do I wondered who other people have their ctf with and how are they performing?

DS was born in 2006 (before financial crisis). His was with Children’s Mutual who were taken over by Foresters in 2017. We went with the highest risk fund we could find at the time (weren’t many risky s&s funds). His initial £250 is now worth about £550. It’s in an Invesco multi-asset growth fund.

DD was born in 2010. We also invested her £250 with Children’s Mutual. Her holdings are with the Invesco UK Smaller Companies Equity fund (also with Foresters). It’s now worth £780!

I moved DS account into a child ISA. It had made a couple of hundred quid I think, but he is a child of the financial crash! I think the ISA will do better over the longer term.

I put DS's with F&C in the highest risk fund. It's gone from £255 in 2004 to over £800. I think it was Emerging Markets.

Is the Nateest one in cash?

makingmiracles · 14/10/2018 23:46

Ive no idea @Okhitmewithit , I’m not particularly knowledgeable about it, I’ve gone ahead now with the change so we shall see how they perform now they’re with pilling. With any luck the two oldest should hopefully have around £1k by the time they’re 18, the youngest I think it will be nearer £2k. I plan to monitor how they go over this coming year and might finally start putting some money in them myself which I haven’t done to this point.

Whatever you do don’t panic as and when the price drops. It will. It will also go back up. Piling is clearly in stocks and shares so prices will go down at some point. Without sounding daft, it’s a ‘so what’ that’s needed from you. Let it voice up and down, the trend will be upwards.

Reminds self to dig out details of both ds's.
Fear they are not worth much. SadWe put £10 in each month, but stopped it when we realised how badly they were performing.
Can't even remember now who it's with!!

Move to AJ Bell, invest in a Vanguard Lifestrategy fund
