luteal phase - how to increase?

Hello,

Has anyone successfully increased their luteal phase naturally or with medical help?

Ive been TTC for 9 years, have only had one pregnancy that ended as an emergency ectopic, where I lost a tube.

Ive been seen by gynaecology & fertility services but due to my high BMI they won't/ cant help.

Since last July, I have been on a huge fitness / diet overhaul. I've lost 29kgs, completely changed how I eat, I go to the gym 5 times a week, ive reduced my BMi by 11 points.

But still my luteal phase remains 8 days only. I use ovusense, the data collection is really good. It clearly shows I ovulate late (day 19/20) and then my period will start 7/8 days later.

Surely, if this was all due to my weight then there should have been an improvement?!?

Do you think the fertility services will see me again if I can evidence no change in situation even after loosing weight? Im still over the BMI cut off for IVF etc but am 40 this year so time is not on my side

I had a private consultation with Plan Your Baby (via video call) and got a prescription for Cyclogest (progesterone) which increased my luteal phase. It didn't help but I was happy that he let me try it.

He also picked up a few other things like my thyroid, that was missed/dismissed by the NHS consultant.

My luteal phase was also 8-10 days and unfortunately, the consultants I spoke to were very dismissive of the issue. I was told it didn’t matter for conception and that surely I wasn’t ovulating when I thought I was (said without doing any tests or scans). Eventually, I managed to get cyclogest for 6 months which increased my luteal phase but I didn’t get pregnant. In the end I did ivf and had a baby.

Time is not on your side so at this point I wouldn’t wait for nhs. Good luck, it’s so hard. Congratulations on your weight loss.

Thanks for the reply, I may look into private options for a script & some testing, its been a few years since my last blood tests etc
