I have had my EC today and because I am at risk of OHSS, I was prescribed some medicine to take as a apart of my recovery, this included Cabergoline. I am self funded and when I have checked the App to find a invoice for the medicines, the cost of the Cabergoline is listed as £103.37! The thing is recently got a diagnosed with a prolactinoma through Bupa which meant I needed to take this exact medicine and as it was private prescription I paid only £13 for it at my local pharmacy in March! I can't believe they would overcharge me by so much, do you think I should call on Monday to challenge them or will I just be making a fool of myself?

Sorry to say this but sounds quite normal. I'm still reeling over having to pay £50 p and p everytime I needed new drugs posted to me as I was self funded from a certain online pharmacy. And I'm talking a plastic envelope for meds the size of a box of paracetamol. 50 pounds! It's sickening but it's a money making industry and when you need, it you'll pay it. You could ask if you can return it and then get at your pharmacy again. Can but try.

It’s not the clinics who are overcharging: it’s the pharmaceutical companies. The Bupa prescription cost you only £13 because you have health insurance with Bupa, so they paid the extra. It’s just like an NHS prescription – the drugs don’t necessarily cost only £9.90; they’re hugely subsidised and the NHS pays the difference.

@FluentTealGuide I appreciate what your saying but my cover with BUPA doesn't cover prescription costs, it was a private prescription that I took to my usual pharmacy and they first said it would cost around £30 ( they needed to order in) and when I went back the next day to collect it, they said it was actually cheaper only £13. I couldn't say if they gave me at cost price or added their own mark up to it as they are a really small pharmacy.

Ahh, I see. Well in that case, I would query it with the clinic. Perhaps you could ask them to write you a prescription for you to fulfil yourself?
