No sperm found in test result

I have just had the dreaded call that my partner has ‘no sperm’. It was the first test and we’ve been told to wait 8 weeks for the next one. As i’m sure you can imagine, we’re freaking out! Has anyone experienced this & got anny advise?! Anything i should push for in the meantime? 8 weeks is so long!

We are in a similar situation so I would like some advice too. They found 1 sperm that was just twitching in his sample and was told 8 weeks for second sample also we have booked a private scan to check for blockages and a blood test as this could be a possibility ultrasound direct do a scan and bloods for £300

We’re in a similar situation but low sperm count and thats after 5 tests now over several months. As soon as we got the first test results the GP said get another test because that will give a clearer picture as things can change.

We pushed for a hormone test to check testosterone and FSH levels and an ultrasound scan to check if there were any issues with a potential varicocele etc. Sadly no obvious issues were found. We’re now seeing a urologist privately but doing as many tests for hormones etc. as we could either through NHS or through cheaper private clinics was certainly worth it before seeing the urologist as it meant they had more information before the consultation and overall it works out a lot cheaper.

Another issue that can cause problems is an underlying infection, but I’m not sure what test is out there to test for this.

We’ve also changed lots of lifestyle things like loose underwear, lots of antioxidant supplements, Mediterranean diet etc. Your probably already know about this but there’s a good chapter in “it starts with the egg” about sperm health as well.

But too be honest I am still pretty clueless as to why the results are as they are and what can be done so Il keep an eye out on this thread for anyone who can give any more answers.

My husband has been diagnosed with azoospermia too, from the second analysis result. It is ages to wait between the 2 but I don't think there is any way around it unfortunately, which is awful!

After the diagnosis was confirmed they wanted to do an ultrasound scan and a genetic blood test. We found everything for this in the NHS super slow, so we managed to do those privately, which has managed to speed up our NHS referral (a little bit...we are still waiting). So if you can I would recommend that!

Something we didn't know until we went private was the volume produced on the analysis can be a bit of an indicator as to whether the problem is a blockage or production issue. If it is low it might be a blockage and if it is a good volume then it might be a production problem. So that can give you a bit of an idea of what you might be looking at if you have the analysis results.

Also, privately they will prescribe medication to help if there is a hormone problem (so if he hasn't had the hormone blood test yet and you can get one go for it!). From what I've read they don't seem too keen in the NHS to use the medication because it technically isn't approved for male hormones I think?

Hope that might help a little. We are not much further along than you so it is nice to meet other people facing this! Although I wish we all weren't x

There's a great azoospermia thread worth reading on here. It's been around for a long while and is even on thread 2.

We saw Dr Pippa Sangster and she was brilliant. My husband has very low count, we don't know why but it meant our NHS IVF round was Our first round of ICSI worked, and lots of original thread members now have babies, so if there are sperm then there is a good chance!

My partner has just had his results from the private scan and hormone bloods. A mild varicolole has been found with a hydroechoic lesion which needs an urgent referral to a urologist, his testicles measured small at 3cm and 3.2cm and high FSH and LH what are the chances we will ever conceive. I’ve researched and apparently FSH cannot be lowered to help sperm production 😢.

That sounds really difficult, I hope urology are able to help him quickly! I don't know what the chances are but maybe they might be able to do a micro-tese for him? If they found one sperm before maybe he is producing something? Sorry to hear the results were not as good as hoped for❤

Following the thread as we’re in a kind of similar situation we first had a sample done in 2024 which I think showed about 1 million and then the second sample was inconclusive which was obviously really disheartening. We decided to pause having IVF as it wasn’t the right time, we’re now picking up again and we’ve just done off that sample and waiting for the results obviously we’re quite worried with the poor second sample so I’m hoping to hear some success stories. Sorry you’re in this situation, it’s so disheartening isn’t it 🙁
