My daughter was conceived in 2019 via egg donation, same as the people in this article. I had NO IDEA the information about the donor could just be literally made up. Devastated.

'Something wasn't right': Wrong sperm given to UK families by IVF clinics in northern Cyprus

Families of seven children believe the wrong sperm or egg donors were used in their IVF treatment.

We're not affected, but this is everyones worst fear. To abuse patients trust like that is unacceptable. Will you do genetic testing @AliceAbsolum ? I'm so sorry you're having to process all this.

AliceAbsolum · 31/03/2026 12:27

We cant decide whether to test or not. I mean she looks like us, so I'm not concerned about her not being my DHs biological child. I just want to know if the donor was a British student as we were told, or is she not. Its horrible. I did so much research and wanted a child so desperately and now I feel so guilty and angry.

@AliceAbsolum In sorry must be very difficult. I think all any of us can do who use donors (we used a sperm donor) is make the best decisions we can on the information and knowledge that we have. I think I would be tempted to do a DNA case to understand if the clinic might have questions to answer, but I can understand it being a very hard decision.

Hi I came on here to see if anyone else had watched the doc. As you say the doc is really shocking, absolutely beautiful and charming kids but I think quite clear to look at them they have Turkish or southern Mediterranean heritage.

i’m so sorry @AliceAbsolum was this the same clinic you used? I can’t imagine what you’re going through right now.

i had a look at an old thread of people who used the clinic and they seem to regular transfer 3 or 4 embryos at a time. And they also stored embryos in bunches of 4 and then charge €1000 a year for freezing.

It looks like this woman who had quadruplets when she was 50 used the clinic. www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/36146938/gran-welcomes-quads-teen-mum/

Yes its the clinic we used. DE same year as the lady in the article.

We are paternity testing our daughter just to make sure first she is DHs, its awful.

Yes they offered to put in 3! I said no thanks. Lady I knew there who was doing treatment at the same time had 3 put back in, 2 stuck, born at 26 weeks, lifelong problems. The Instagram page of the clinic is just full of twins and triplets. Its just such a different culture over there.

Also no way were they her eggs. The 50 year old. Clinics want good stats so I'd bet good money if they DNA tested those children they would not be biologically related to the mum.

@AliceAbsolum From what you have said I'm sure your daughter is your DH's (e.g. they look like one another and they would have had his sample there), but obviously understand why you would want the reassurance given the news.

Yea 3 or 4 embryos feels completely immoral. I have recently been through NHS IVF and they are very strict about transferring multiples.

Yes I don't know what to think re: her own eggs. I don't think it's impossible. She had children very young and I do think you can continue to have children into late 40s if you start younger - just thinking about my female ancestors - and it helped that her partner is a bit younger than her too. What does feel unlikely is that out of the 4 transferred embryos, 3 implanted and one of those turned into twins and they were all chromosomally normal. They do look very like her though, so maybe she has just beaten all the odds.

AliceAbsolum · 03/04/2026 19:00

Yes maybe. Can't say for sure. Miracles do happen!

Was your nhs round successful? Hope you can avoid more cycles.

@AliceAbsolum Yes, successful so far. Feel very fortunate. I'm 18 weeks and we went for a scan today and all looking well.

Really hoping for reassuring news for you and your family. I'm sure it will be, but I understand how it must have rocked your foundations somewhat!

2mumlife · 07/04/2026 12:46

@AliceAbsolum @CoolSummer89 * *I watched the document and oh wow. I also had a look at the article and my first thought was also no chance at getting that many embryos at 50 but then the article said she was the oldest "verified" mum, so maybe she has had them genetically tested to "verify" they used her own eggs? Transferring 3 or 4 embryos routinely is horrific! I didn't realise this was common practice in some places!

@CoolSummer89 Congrats and wishing you a smooth preganncy!

@AliceAbsolum Hope you get results soon confirming your DP is the biological father. I guess address the egg donor part when you're feeling ready for that. Were you told/expecting the egg donor to be from the cyprus/turkey area? I suspect if you were expecting them to be from the local area or a student within the local area thats probably accurate, but if you're expecting something else I think I would be feeling much less certain about the accuracy of the information. I hope there is a great big fucking lawsuit against them after this.

AliceAbsolum · 07/04/2026 13:01

@2mumlife No we were told she was a UK student. Thankfully DD has blonde hair and blue eyes. I literally cannot imagine giving birth and then you see the difference. Terrifying.

@AliceAbsolum At least student seems to tie in well with what the documentary was saying. Hopefully the blond hair and blue eyes means there is truth in what you were told 💛
