Trying to conceive while breastfeeding with prolactinoma diagnosis

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences who may be or have been in a similar position to myself. I was diagnosed with a microprolactinoma in Feb 2024 and commenced on treatment (caborgoline), I then found out I was pregnant September 2024. I now have a lovely healthy little boy and would like to have more children.

My current situation is I'm 10 months pp and am still breastfeeding (hoping to stop at a year). Me and my partner are trying for a baby now and was wondering how long it might take to get pregnant whilst breastfeeding and not currently on treatment.

I had my first period 9 months pp, very light and have missed this current cycle.

Thank you in advance :)

@Lauraway I know nothing about microprolactinoma but I have breastfed through a successful FET and currently breastfeeding through another FET at the moment.

It’s greta your cycles are already returning. The average age for cycle to return if you continue to breastfeed is about 14 months but there is huge variability. Cycles can be really irregular when they come back, so it might be worth tracking ovulation.

Like with anything, no one can really tell you how long it might take to get pregnant again :)

Only thing I would say is weaning can take a long time if you want to do it gently. If your little one is starting childcare at around 12 months it might also not be the time to wean if they are going through lots of changes. I also found continuing breastfeeding really useful for teething.

Also if you continue breastfeeding into pregnancy be aware that you can get horrible aversions during early pregnancy and supply may dip or stop entirely x

Hope someone with experience of microprolactinoma comes along to share experiences of that aspect of things. Good luck! 🤞
