BMI Fertility appointment help

Have my first fertility appt this week, what can I expect please? Have been told it is with a nurse and not consultant. Since GP referred us my BMI increased to 37. I honestly thought the wait would be longer and I had more time to lose as was told a 4 month wait, my weight loss has always been slow. Referred on basis of pcos, one fallopian tube and husband results. I know they cannot treat until BMI is 30, will they investigate still eg hycosy etc? Have had basic GP bloods too. I guess I am worried they will say we need re- referring when my BMI is below 35. Thank you x

Hopefully they will still do a scan etc and maybe they'll prescribe something to support ovulation so you can TTC spontaneously until BMI is sub 30.

Hi, I completely understand if this isn't possible but just wanted to say that there are private clinics that have higher or no BMI limits. Thérapie Fertility in Dublin being one of them, and more affordable than UK ones from what I have seen, with a part-finance option as well. We have had an absolutely amazing experience with them so far. Free IVF is invaluable and should be available more widely but I also know there are people who can't get under 30 in a healthy and sustainable way and if it's an option to take the stress of weight loss away and not spend months waiting for appointments even better. All the best!! ❤️

Thank you for both your messages! @sirensong I was hoping we could try letrozole or clomid to see if that has any successes before we look into IVF however from what I'm reading online my BMI needs to be at 30 which is around a 3 stone loss for me - will take a while if I go down the calorie deficit route and feels overwhelming in a short space of time. @Waitingforday6 thank you for your recommendation, we definitely would consider private. Are you having to travel for your treatment or based over in Dublin? xx

We travelled for our egg collection and spent 9 days there but they now have a satellite clinic in London so I had a few scans and blood tests there for the transfer, and depending on availability and if London works for you you might get away with shorter trips to Dublin just for egg collection and transfer. 😀

Just wanted to update this thread should anyone stumble across it in the future and the outcome with BMI increase since GP referral. The first thing the nurse did was take my height and weight, explained my BMI had changed from referral and updated the system. Did make it clear that if we needed to go down IVF route then BMI would need to be 29.9 and kept for 6 months which I was expecting. Went through all our ttc history and lifestyle, blood and semen results for me and my husband. Was offered a hycosy, further bloods including AMH. Depending on results will try letrozole but ideally need BMI to be 35 (currently 36) Discussed how GP can refer if needing support with the weight loss and overall found their attitude supportive and encouraging🙏
