Considering IVF abroad

I just want to moan really and possibly see if anyone has any advice. Period arrived this morning.

My boyfriend and I have been TTC since Christmas 2024. I think I had an early miscarriage last year (I thought I had the faintest of lines on two tests but wasn't sure, was going to retest a few days later than I started bleeding heavily and painfully).

Other than that, nothing.

I'm getting so tired of it. We just want to be parents. We're doing everything we can at the moment. We're taking loads of supplements which have helped (I'm not sure that I was ovulating regularly if at all before, but I am now, or assume I am as my period starts consistently after a positive ovulation test, and i get consistent symptoms during the post-ovulation time). We're definitely eating better, keeping better hydrated and trying to exercise more.

I know I need to go and see the GP but my BMI is too high to access fertility services where we live. This is something I am actively working on and am doing quite well with.

I have considered going abroad for treatment. I don't really know where but somewhere fairly nearby and which appears a little bit cheaper than here but which has good outcomes. I was thinking Denmark or Norway possibly but open to other suggestions.

Can anyone help?
How much roughly did IVF cost you abroad? Most of the websites don't even give a rough idea of the medication costs.
Logistically, how did it work? How long were you there for or did you pop back and to?

We have just done two cycles with ICSI and PGTA at Clinica Tambre, Alicante. The care and facilities have been pretty good and it is about 9K Euros per cycle, but they give you a partial refund if you end a cycle with nothing to transfer. I was there for 7-8 days per cycle and my husband and son joined me for about 5 days per cycle. You do the monitoring scans and bloods with a clinic in your home country and then do the last scan with the clinic abroad, followed by the egg retrieval and some time to rest afterwards. I am 42, husband's 40 and we have had six miscarriages, all naturally conceived.

Hey, I am sorry you are going through this. Here is a reliable IVF calculator that helps you check IVF costs in most popular and affordable destinations: https://www.fertilityclinicsabroad.com/ivf-cost-calculator/. Hope this helps. Good luck

It might be worth looking at Therapie Fertility. They have a satellite office in London and your fly to Dublin for egg retrieval/sperm collection and transfer. It should work out cheaper than clinics in London

Thank you for your help. It's so difficult knowing where and how to start looking into these sorts of things!

I'm still clinging on to hope for this cycle. The period has turned out to be light spotting today only when I've had my bowels open. I suspect it'll turn to an actual period tomorrow/Thursday but at the moment I'm still hoping.

I've had tender breasts today. I whinge about having tender breasts from ovulation onwards usually but that usually settles a day or two before my period arrives. Yesterday they were really sore and they're quite sore today, too. My boyfriend thinks they feel quite heavy, heavier than usual. I've felt a little nauseous today but I think that may have been because I had more coffee than I'm used to these days.
