Unblocking fallopian tube?

Hi all,

Would really appreciate some help! I had a HyCosy about a month ago which revealed a small polyp and also a potential blocked left fallopian tube.

The fertility clinic have referred me to have the polyp removed but neither the clinic nor the surgeon seem bothered about investigating my tube. When I asked the surgeon, he said that it only mattered if I wanted to have a natural conception, which would be my preference.

I feel like I am being pushed into IVF without trying to fix a potential cause of our infertility. Has anyone had surgery to unblock a fallopian tube, was it successful and what was the name of your DR? We are in London and we are happy to consider paying to have it done privately.

Thank you all so much and good luck to everyone on their fertility journey 🧡

Hiya,

I discovered I had a blocked tube in 2021 aged 38 (after a failed solo IUI) and have had five natural pregnancies since then (with my partner). Only one living child, but the sperm clearly does get through! My private doctor said unblocking is rarely permanently successful, and that based on my age she would jump straight to IVF (I did later with my partner because of recurrent loss, but it didn’t work, only natural conception has ever worked for us). What I’m trying to say is don’t be too discouraged about having one blocked tube, as long as it’s not leaking fluid you should be ok if the other one is clear.

I always think that I’m grateful my left one is blocked because otherwise I might have fallen pregnant with a different egg from the left tube that wouldn’t have resulted in my amazing daughter ❤️

I was prescribed Clomid for a while to try and encourage ovulation from both sides each month to combat the blocked tube issue, but it was actually only when we stopped all fertility treatments that we conceived our daughter, and clomid sent me a bit loopy.

Also, it depends on where your blockage is as not all blockages can be surgically repaired.

Best of luck with whatever you choose to do xx

Thank you so much for your reply and I'm so glad your story has good news!

The clinic told me yesterday that they would do a laraoscopy and hysteroscopy at the same time if I wanted and am just waiting to hear if they'd be willing to try and unblock the tube at the same time - fingers crossed they will.

Thank you again xx
