Hey!

Im looking to connect with other mums going though IVF or ICSI who are in Edinburgh.

I am going through this in Jan 2026 and feeling a bit alone and can’t seem to find any other groups or people going through the same x x

@Emzywemzy1 Not sure how I feel...maybe a bit of disbelief that it has come to this point. Though we have been on the waiting list since June, I have really struggled to get to the headspace of 'ok we're doing this'. I really am not holding out much hope that it is going to work. Stats are not in our favour, as I am almost 40. We are in the very lucky position that we have a 4 yr old. I want to be able to look back and say we tried everything.

Have you made/had any counselling appointments? I have booked one in for a few weeks time.

I think I need to call when I get my Jan period. Did you do that for your Dec period then and you are due to start soon?

I'm really apprehensive about how I'm going to fit all the appointments around work and childcare. Assuming you don't know dates of appointments very far in advance?

Emzywemzy1 · 27/12/2025 23:29

@HM2024
yea I am 37 and it’s secondary for us too, male factor of low sperm count, so it’s private for us 😂 💰

we also have a 6year old but just like you it doesn’t make it any easier, I’ve thought the same that I feel I need to give this a go to say we have tried all we could.

I haven’t taken up the counselling appointments…not sure if that’s my vibe, maybe you could let me know how yours goes.

yea I called when I got my period and then they talk dates and send you dates and meds. They tell you all your appointments then too, for me it’s medication starting 6th Jan and only appointments are scans at the end of the month to see how follicles are going and when to do the trigger shot.

Who are you going through?

@Emzywemzy1
We're self funded through NHS place at the Royal. Is that what you mean by who are we going through? Are you the same?

I'll report back on the counselling. I've never done it before but think I need it for this journey however it works out.

Ohh so you got all your appointment dates when you called? That would be really helpful. I had thought most would be pretty last minute. I guess things can change but good to have an idea.

Is your other half going to many appointments with you? I'm thinking my husband will just come to the ones he needs to.

BlueSkyWinterSun · 28/12/2025 13:03

Hey, I'm close by. We're using the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. I had my transfer on the 10th December. So far it's positive, but eagerly awaiting the viability scan before getting too excited 😬. Finding these days between xmas and new year super slow & giving the brain too much time to think!

My husband didn't come to any of the appointments with me, he did had his own one for his bit and meant he didn't need to take the time off work.

Emzywemzy1 · 28/12/2025 13:50

@HM2024 No not going through NHS we are through GCRM which are based I. Glasgow but have a satellite clinic here in Edinburgh so all appointments can be in Edinburgh except transfer.

We had our initial appointment in October and starting next week. Yea we had all appointments on that call and medications arranged and home delivered.

My husbands come to them all, there hasn’t been many to be fair, one initial one for a scan, then another for information session, then one for HIV and Hep C blood tests then that’s it now till my first scan during injections.

Hey, I'm GCRM, had initial appointments in Edinburgh. Starting meds next week. I'm also on the IVF Jan 2026 thread (which although has a broader geographical remit may come in handy if you have questions as there will usually be someone somewhere asking the same thing or on the same timeline).

Emzywemzy1 · 28/12/2025 15:56

@BeeStrong oh wow I think we are prob the same dates 😂
How you feeling? Is this your first time?

OP posts:
BeeStrong · 29/12/2025 07:19

Hey @Emzywemzy1 , this is my third cycle, but my first with GCRM. I have no children. The last two cycles I did fresh transfers as part of the cycle, however with this one I am opting for genetic testing meaning there is no imminent transfer, and I think that is what is making my feelings are a bit 'muted' compared to the last two cycles as there is no imminent prospect of pregnancy. My retrial numbers were not all that high in previous rounds so I'm also very aware I could come out the other side of this with no genetically good embryos, not trying to overthink it may help me 🙃.

That being said, there is a constant 'anxiety' in me that I'm hoping will start to relax once the medication delivery arrives this morning 😂

Oh good luck 🙏 sounding hopeful! How long do you need to wait until the scan?

I think my husband will be the same with appointments until (hopefully...) egg retrieval appt.

Hey @HM2024

I just noticed we're using the same clinic, self funded at the Royal. Similar situation to yourself, I turned 40 last week and we have a little boy, he's 2 and a half.

My viability scan isn't until the 19th Jan & I'll be 8 weeks + 3 days then so I've just booked elsewhere to have one on the 8th as it felt too long to wait. They don't do blood tests either, just emailed with pregnancy test result then had an email the next day with a scan date so I've booked bloods elsewhere too 😂. In another forum I'm in, a lot of them seem to get bloods at their clinic so not sure why some are different.

I was advised to call first day of period and that it might take up to 3 months but I got taken the first time calling and then it was super speedy after that. Although it's the NHS hospital too, I think self funded get seen quicker.

@Emzywemzy1 @BeeStrong @BlueSkyWinterSun
How's everyone getting on?

@BlueSkyWinterSun Good luck with your scan tomorrow 🙏

BlueSkyWinterSun · 09/01/2026 15:27

Hey @HM2024 all went well thank you. Lovely to see a wee heart beating and measuring well.

How are you getting on? Started on the meds?

HM2024 · 09/01/2026 19:27

@BlueSkyWinterSun Aw amazing, so happy to hear that ❤️ congratulations

Just reading back and you're at Glasgow Royal and I'm at Edinburgh Royal. Was sure I'd been told test was via a blood test so was confused it was different.

How any rounds have you done? And what was your protocol? Curious to hear more from someone around my age. I'll be doing long protocol.

BlueSkyWinterSun · 09/01/2026 19:41

Ah sorry @HM2024 it is funny how they all have different procedures! I was protocol 52 but no idea what that means haha. I was a fully medicated cycle so had the injection to put me into menopause and then a few days before transfer i went on to 2 x cyclogest pessaries, 1 x lubion injection and 3 x progynova daily and staying on those till 12 weeks. Does that sound similar to what your set up will be? It was my first transfer, we had 12 eggs which gave 4 embryos, 3 they froze and thankfully and luckily the first one stuck. My eggs had been previously frozen so I didn't need an egg retrieval.

HM2024 · 11/01/2026 21:07

@BlueSkyWinterSun I haven't heard of that protocol but everywhere seems like they do totally different things! But same for the menopause part - I will be 'down regulating' before starting. How did you find that?
Did you have your eggs frozen a while ago? Kind of wish I'd done that but my younger self would never even have considered it.
