We have our first appointment on Tuesday and want to get a general idea of what to expect and maybe some ideas of what we could ask?

I have had it twice. Once 8 years ago before my first round and again recently as I’m gonna again. It’s a requirement at our clinic rather than a need I have.
i suppose it depends really- are you a male/female couple or a same sex couple?
it’s more them giving you information I thought e.g studies have found that children should always know they are donor conceived. They showed me some books and resources. Was very straight forward but were a lesbian couple so we always knew we would use a sperm donor maybe different if you have a partner who is struggling with the thought of using a donor

We’re a male/female couple. Always had an idea that OH had fertility issues so completely open to the idea of using a sperm donor and we’ve spoke about it at length over the past couple of years but now it’s been confirmed that sperm donour route is the way to go. We’re both fine with it but wasn’t sure if the counselling thing was more of a ‘test’ and that we’d be getting asked questions about our life or what not which we’re happy to answer was just wanting a general idea of what that entails.

No it’s more just going through things like telling the child, using books, for us they talked about ensuring there’s male role models (🙄), I’m trying to think what else. They may ask if you feel completely sure of your decision and how your husband feels about it. But it is a tick box exercise rather than a test. Obviously the main thing is that a child should always know they are donor conceived and it shouldn’t be a secret. I say this now as my kids are older and they know everything

That’s great was very nervous of what it was going to be like. We’ve always been open to the fact that the child would know from a young age or when they start to ask where babies come from and do it that way. Definitely not something that we’d want to keep secret. Thank you so much for your comment @Pollu42☺️
