Miscarriage and thrombotic profile bloods

Has anyone had these bloods after 2 failed transfers? I know some consultants will prescribe meds as if you do have a clotting disorder, as a just in case. However I’d rather actually know than just use the meds for the sake of it 😂

Yes!

Although I’ve only had one frozen transfer (which failed)

I asked what the next, next step would be as I didn’t want to waste another embryo without a diagnosis. I had to pay privately and the consultant was reluctant but agreed to send bloods away for a thrombophilia screen and a TH1:TH2 Cytokine ratio. This cost £600 in total. But worth the gamble as I have now been diagnosed with antiphospholipids and an elevated immune profile. Awaiting further results but I assume it’s going to be NK cells.

The heparin prescription will be covered by the NHS, asprin is pennies to treat the antiphospholipids. But unfortunately the steroid and intralipid infusions to calm my immune system won’t be funded by my NHS referral so I will have to pay. We’re currently awaiting a quote to make sure we can afford it, but in reality, I already know I will blow savings on it if needed.

I think it was worth it!

Ah that’s good to know! I’ve seen a lot of people say their consultants will suggest don’t bother wasting money on the tests and they’ll just add in clexane etc. but I think I’d rather know if I actually need it or not. I’m already taking levothyroxine for my TSH so I’m also paying to have the thyroid panel and antibodies. Also added in ferritin. May as well whilst I’m there 😂I think it’ll cost me £666.

We’re private so I dread to think what it’ll cost if we do have to add in other stuff 😫

We have our quotes and thankfully it’s not quite as bad cost wise as I thought it would be.

£440 per Intralipid Infusion, I have been prescribed two.

£20 for 100 tablets of prednisolone steroid

I didn’t think it would be cheap, cheap, but as the blood tests were over £500 I expected it to be high so quite relieved!

One thing to watch if this ends up being something you need is to check the cost if you have to pay privately. The steroid is really cheap, about 60p per tablet. But my clinic charge an admin fee of £250 per prescription if the value of the drug prescribed is over £50. I need 100 so £60. Which is insane in my opinion so the nurse prescribed me 50x2 for free and I went to Boots to dispense who thankfully charge a flat fee of £9.99 for a private prescription, which I then paid twice. Hopefully I won’t need to take this past a positive pregnancy test, or if I do, fingers crossed they will allow me to do that again.
