Travel holiday after FET

I'm hoping to get other peoples perspectives on this as I'm in 2 minds!
Me and my boyfriend are planning a new year get away, originally looked at Thailand but realised its a zika virus country so after more research we've decided on 10 nights in Sri Lanka, it's not on the GOV website list and ChatGPT also checked. My issue is I'm scheduled a FET next week after my last one was cancelled due to thin lining, this will be my 3rd FET. So basically am I being crazy for looking at going on a holiday where we are planning to move around to about 5 different areas while potentially being 10-11 weeks pregnant?? But on the other hand we've put out lives on hold so many times over the last 4 years so we just go for it! I told myself we'd go for it and got all excited but then the sensible side of me hit and I'm thinking am I being stupid planning such a trip?? I am soo torn!! Due to my boyfriends work it's rare we will get the chance to do a 10 day holiday again for a long time and Sri Lanka would likely be a once in a life time holiday for us.
What would you do? Help please!!

Hello again from the other thread 😁 I saw a thread in active about a hypothetical flight to Portugal after IVF and someone commented saying they were a midwife and wouldn't fly pregnant full stop but that OP was talking about flying at 32 weeks and there the consensus was not to do it. I think if you can't or don't want to hold off on booking until after you know the outcome of your FET (fingers crossed!!!!) then as long as you have good travel insurance I can understand wanting to do it and not put your life on hold. I am sure plenty of people travel at that point in pregnancy but I don't have any personal experience to draw on.

Hello again 😋ah I am spiralling about it! I really don't know. I'm so sick of putting life on hold but also know pregnancy is priority!

It's so tricky. The way we are approaching next year (hopefully first transfer in February but there might be more if it fails) is that we are planning various holiday options but won't book flights until nearer the time, so finding free cancellation hotels. We're currently planning to do 3-4 transfers a year max (maybe Feb/May/September then take a break for Christmas with a holiday in August and October) so not back to back although if God forbid we have a loss we might well feel differently and want to go again asap so we will just have to see how it goes) because we also want to be able to live our life in between (and transfers are a lot more expensive than the conventional way 😂). We aren't planning any long distance holidays but that's because there happen to be European ones we're quite keen to do and not going too far and sticking to a GHIC covered country on top of travel insurance would be my personal preference if pregnant. But if you think this is a once in a lifetime holiday and hard to push back due to work then I'm sure you'll find loads of pregnant women who did long distance at that stage of pregnancy. A friend of mine went to Greece somewhere between 32 and 34 weeks.

Hi, Sri Lanka is a beautiful “must visit” country in my opinion, but I wouldn’t go pregnant. My partner ended up in bed for 2 days after eating something (we aren’t sure what exactly), which I know may not be common, but based on that alone I wouldn’t want to go whilst being pregnant. I’d be nervous going anywhere abroad but personally would wait for the outcome of your FET.

Wishing you lots of luck for your journey! x

Thank you both for your replies! We decided we was best to wait and see what the outcome of the FET is! X

Sounds good! Fingers crossed you're not going 😉 😀 before IVF I always got myself a treat when I got my period so it's always good to have something to look forward to if it doesn't happen this time but I hope it does ❤️

Hi @waitingforourmiracle
I see you have already decided to wait but I just wanted to say I was in a similar situation recently. My holiday to Oz was already booked and we had to decide on whether to delay the IVF or risk going away potentially 6-8 weeks pregnant. Like you we were fed up of putting our lives on hold due to TTC so we decided to go for it BUT Australia is fairly safe in that no more risk of getting ill than UK!
As it was our transfer didn’t work but we had a wonderful holiday to look forward to and switch off for a couple weeks. Perhaps you can look forward to planning a trip last minute once you know the outcome of your FET? Good or bad it’s nice to have something else to focus on and look forward to afterwards ☺️

I'm sorry to hear your transfer failed! Yes think we're going to make a decision once we know the outcome, FET is tomorrow so we'll go from there! X
