Long protocol vs short protocol?

Hi can anyone tell me the difference? Why some have long protocol some short? Does that depend on female factors? We have male factor infertility. Have undergone all the tests and finally have our planning/paperwork appointment 03rd November.
does that mean we can start stims on my following cycle?

Hello!

So short protocol is most common these days its where they start stims on first day or two of your period without any down regulation (priming of your ovaries). This can be helpful for suspected poor responders as you dont risk slowing your ovaries down too much and can sometimes result in more eggs.

long protocol is where they slow down your natural ovarian function for a few weeks before stimulation. This can help with people with PCOS or Endo but can also be useful in individuals whose follicles dont grow consistently (so you may end up with more immature eggs).

all the best for your cycle :)

Hi OP. There really is no straight answer in terms of when they are indicated accdg to my consultant. Ivf is really a lot of trial and error I’m afraid. I think short protocols are more common these days. I had short protocol in my first cycle which was unsuccesful. I had long protocol in second cycle where ironically the follicles’ growth was quite unequal (I was previously told long protocol helps to even out growth) so we got even less eggs collected. However this was our successful cycle. Not sure if it’s got to do with it being long protocol tbh as we did lots of different things in the second cycle too. Sorry not a helpful reply OP but I wish you the best of luck.
