Embryo grade decreased after thaw

Hi

has anyone ever had the grade of an embryo decrease after being thawed ? We had a 5BB and it was thawed to be biopsied then re frozen , it was re thawed for our FET and has went from a 5BB to a 4BB, is this a good thing ? The nurse said they can do this and it’s ok but I wonder has anyone had this happen and still had a pregnancy ? Thanks

I've not had it happen, but it does happen - it can change either way. It's not a positive sign but it absolutely doesn't mean you wouldn't have a successful pregnancy. A 4BB is still a good grade, and embryo grading is subjective anyway. Good luck!

@SarahAndQuack thanks so much for your reply, the number in the grading correlates to the amount the embryo has expanded , so I guess I am just worried that it was hatching (grade 5) to now a just before hatching (4) .. I guess it didn’t drop a letter grade just the expansion grade .. but I just hope this doesn’t mean it’s not going the way it should ,this will be our 7th transfer! 🫠

Yes, I know what the numbers correlate to. It's totally possible for the grade to drop and for it still to end up with a succesful pregnancy. I know someone whose embryo dropped much more than yours, so there absolutely is hope!

Hi, thanks this puts my mind at ease if your friend had a successful outcome , that’s so encouraging to hear, thank you. 🙏 I think after so many fails it’s easy to think the worst and over analyse everything 🤯

I don't think it's possible not to over-analyse - I know I can't! Keeping my fingers very crossed for you.

4bb is a good embryo. Iv had embryos not survive thaw at all. All that matters is if it properly expands after thaw and can be transferred. You still have great chances of success. Good luck..

There is a guide I read on Seen Fertility about this! Worth taking a look
