Why am I being told to take NSAIDS at embryo transfer?

Hi ladies. I am starting our first FET cycle in the next couple of weeks. To say I am nervous is an understatement. I just received my FET meds and I've noticed they're asking me to take Voltarol/Diclofenac 50mg 2 hrs before transfer and another 6 hrs after transfer. I was just reading online that NSAIDs are generally not recommended around transfer as they can affect implantation. Anyone else's clinic asked them to do this? I am with CRGH. Thanks

I assume to reduce inflammation but you should ask them directly for rationale.

Yeh but no one else seems to have been given this by their clinic! I have no issues just mfi. Anyway I've messaged our consultant. See what he says

Sorry for what is now a too late reply but in case anyone else reads this thread. I was with CRGH as well. I’d had diclofenac during various egg collections as pain relief and it didn’t sit well with my bowels so I asked whether I really needed for FET. They said it was to reduce my discomfort during the transfer, my view was that it was not worth it for me given the knock on effects to me. We agreed I wouldn’t take it and instead I just had a couple of paracetamol ahead of time. I did 3 FETs like that and all went fine (2 out of 3 implanted - one MMC and the other my DD).

hope your transfer went smoothly!

Hii. Thanks for replying. You're definitely not too late! I still haven't started my periods yet for the transfer cycle 🤣. So I ended up messaging our consultant and he actually said it's to prevent uterine cramps and so can apparently help with implantation during transfer so I've decided to take it. I've had iuis and discomfort was minimal. I didn't think an embryo transfer would be painful - I'll find out soon I guess. If my periods start when they're meant to (had a hysteroscopy a couple of weeks ago) we should be transferring beginning of November ekkk. I am really hoping this works 🙏. We've never even seen a bfp in 2 yrs of trying. Thx

Ha, zero consistency from CRGH consultants then! I didn’t find the embryo transfers painful, honestly the only discomfort was needing to pee a lot as you have to have a full bladder. One definite tip, they ask you to have a full bladder for the transfer. They are pretty efficient once you get there so if you are ‘ready’ when they first scan you they can transfer pretty quick, whereas once I was not full enough and I had to drink more and pace up and down the corridor for 20 mins to fill my bladder which just prolonged matters.

good luck!

I had the same for the transfer and it did make a real difference. So much less painful than my dummy transfer which meant I was able to stay really still and no cramping afterwards.

Considering how fucking painful it was to have my coils in/out it did make me wonder why they don’t offer it for other procedures!

Currently 34 weeks from my first transfer attempt. Also never had a BFP in two and a half years

good luck. I hope it all goes well for you

Heyy I am so happy it worked for you congrats!! Definitely gives me hope 🙏. Oh that's good to know it helps that much with pain. I think unfortunately as women we're just meant to put up with such painful procedures 🙄. Really sucks. Thanks I am anxiously waiting for my period to start - it's annoyingly a day late already. I had an endometrial scratch a couple of weeks ago maybe it's delayed it x
