Low sperm count

Please help
We have been TTC for 7 months. My husband received sperm analysis results yesterday and he has a severe low sperm count (oligospermia)- 420,000. The fertility clinic booked him in for a second test in two weeks time to confirm. They didn’t give us any more information, guidance or reassurance.
I of course spent hours googling as we were given no information whatsoever , and this can be caused for a number of reasons - partial blockage (may be able to get surgery to correct), hormone balance (Google said medication or hCg injections can be taken to improve) etc.
I rang the receptionist in the clinic this morning as I was anxious to find out information to put our minds at ease - she said there is no such thing as a partial blockage and there is absolutely no medication or nothing a man can take to improve sperm count.
I am extremely confused and disheartened because the hundreds of websites and forums I’ve been reading up on online says completely different. Any advice please? Does this sound accurate?
Personally seeing as it’s a private fertility clinic, I found it appalling for my husband to be given such heartbreaking news so coldly over the phone. And told to come back for a second test in two weeks. Without a consultant speaking to him to give any reassurance or advice. I am just falling down a rabbit of google with no solid information

I would be looking for a new clinic and a second opinion! Sorry you are going through this, my partner had a low count (lowest was 1.2 mil) and it was found after my first round of IVF he had a varicocele, he had the procedure done to help that, stopped drinking and took Impryl and on my second round of IVF at egg collection his count went to 7.5mil, albeit still low compared to normal standards but it improved a hell of a lot! If not already done maybe ask to have a scan done xx

Most fertility clinics deal mainly with female issues and are useless with male factor. It’s a urologist you will want to speak to. Some of the best private ones for a consultation are Dr Pippa Sangster and Dr Jonathan Ramsay. My husband has azoospermia and the first thing they did was check his hormones. I would suggest getting your husband to have a hormone check with the GP first. My husbands azoospermia is down to a blockage. I honestly am not sure if there’s such a thing as a partial blockage but to me it makes sense that that could be an option? If you see a urologist they will likely scan him to see if they can see anything and also check for varicoceles which can impact sperm.

Some lifestyle changes to consider are supplements specifically for sperm quality, lycopene, no alchol, limited caffeine, no hot baths or cycling or tight pants to stop the testicles getting too warm which impacts sperm. Has he had anything recently (within last 3 months) like Covid that gave him a temperature? That can also impact count

Sorry you’ve had this news but try not to panic. There’s things you can explore.

First of all you need a new clinic by the sounds of it and secondly your husband can do a lot to improve his sperm as sperm is regenerated after every release and taking the right supplements and big life style changes for 3 months can dramatically increase sperm count and quality. Also doing some investigation into why the sperm might be low in the first place. My husband has low sperm count. We did icsi on our first round for this year and we had 0 fertilisation. Hubby took an over the counter fertility supplement for men for 3 months and with our second round of ivf we got 2 embryos again using icsi. The quality of his sperm increased . I also took supplements for egg quality so cant say for sure what worked to get us embryos but there is things you can do. The food your husband eats, any sort of smoking, alcohol or drinking soft drink and energy drinks, too much sugar and so forth can all effect your husbands sperm..
