Hysteroscopy Anaesthesia

Hello, I am scheduled for a Hysteroscopy as part of recurrent miscarriage investigations. It will be done at a private clinic and they told me it will be done under a light general anaesthetics.

Is this usual practice? So if they do not find anything to operate on, then I’ve put my body through anaesthetics for no reason?

thank you in advance!

I've had 3 hysteroscopies, mine were to investigate and remove adhesions/scar tissue so I had a general anaesthetic for all of them. Mine were intended to be surgical but even the first one where they weren't sure what was going to be necessary, the GA was recommended as its a delicate process and the Dr said better I'm asleep so no chance of accidentally moving or something, but also I really didn't want to be aware of what was happening or in potential discomfort

I had one at St Mary’s recently. Not sure why under GA but there was been lots of pushing that hysteroscopies in an outpatient setting are awful.

My experience was great. Had to be there by 07.30. I was fourth on the list and was leaving by 1pm. Went down to theatre at 10.30.

I did have an outpatient one five years ago which was OK. But it was a quick look with a camera and nothing more. I had biopsy taken at the recent on and was bleeding straight after. From a stress perspective it was great being put under GA tbh, even though the other one was fine. They said 1 in 400,000 risk of an issue with the anaesthetic.
