Has anyone ever used embryo glue before?

& does anyone recommend it?

I've never used it before, but being offered it as an add on for my first frozen transfer, was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on it?

thank you x

My understanding is that there’s no data to show it makes any difference. If your clinic is offering it as a paid add on, probably trying to make some extra money off of you.

I did on the 4th transfer as they offered it then and it was only around 200 quid. I don't know if it did anything as I also had intralipid transfusions for that cycle and I'm more convinced it was those that made a difference but I guess there's no way to know.
I just thought that after so many failed attempts, if it didn't work I'd always wonder if I missed my chance just to save a relatively small amount of money whereas if it works I won't begrudge and extra 200 ish pounds on the bill.
If you've only had one fresh transfer I'd try a couple more times, most people get pregnant within 3 tried and if you don't then you might want to consider more tests first to rule out anything else that might be it.

It’s standard in my clinic, they don’t charge for it. Good luck OP.

Embryo glue was also standard (included in the price) at my clinic. I’ve had 4 transfers with it - 3 failures and 1 success, so I’m not really sure that the embryo glue makes any difference as such.

(It’s possible though that I’m just sceptical of all these “add ons” in general (and the HFEA seem to be too) because for my first IVF round I paid an extra £800 for time-lapse incubation and had 2 failures. 2nd round I decided it was too much extra to pay and I then had success and had my DS (and then a failed FET to try for a sibling). In the time since I stopped IVF I notice my clinic now “include” time lapse incubation in the price too - I suspect a lot of people weren’t willing to pay the extra!)

BUT what cost £200 for peace of mind if you are already spending thousands? If it would always make you wonder “what if?”, then I would probably go for it.

Thank you everyone for your responses. My clinic only charge around £250 I think for it, so it's not breaking the bank (still expensive) but nothing compared to the cost of the IVF itself.

The clinic have said research from the Cochran review shows that embryo glu containing hyaluronan increases pregnancy and live birth rates by around 10%. When I asked if there were any negatives from using it, they explained there is none that they are aware of yet.

I'm also going on steroids prior to transfer for 3 weeks to lower inflammation in my body (as I have an auto immune condition). I think like what @Alexandrine said, if I don't use it, it might make me wonder what if.

I was just wondering if there were any negative stories out there about the glue (besides the cost) x

@TTC301 I haven’t heard anything that says embryo glue reduces your chances or causes any harm - afaik there is just a lot of debate as to whether it actually does do anything to help either (as apparently the HFEA have said some studies have shown it helped and others have shown it makes no difference 🤷‍♀️).

I have used it on my two ivf transfers so far. First fresh transfer failed. Currently 6 weeks pregnant from the second frozen one. Good luck!

TTC301 · 09/09/2025 16:25

Okay thank you that's sort of what I wanted to hear! I think I will give it a go as it doesn't seem to reduce any chance.

@magpie234 congratulations to you that's lovely news xxx
