Monosomy 22 chromosome defect

Hi. Hope everyone is well.
it’s my first time posting a thread so I’m a little anxious.
I went to Cyprus last month to have my ivf. I was on 375iu meriofert, cetrotide and gonapeptyl for my trigger.
I went there expecting a fresh transfer however due to slight signs of OHHS they decided frozen would be better and that they would do NGS testing. I’m 38 next month and my husband is also 38. Neither have been diagnosed with anything that could related to infertility.
they collected 17 eggs from 26 follicles but only 3 reached day 6 of blastocyst. After 2 weeks of stressing the results came yesterday saying all 3 embryos have a monosomy 22 defect and none could be transferred. That was Heartbreaking to hear.
has anyone else experienced this chromosome defect? And will it happen again if we went for another cycle? The dr advised some lifestyle changes, taking more supplements co-q10, omega 3, folate.. all the usual. not sure what to do next. Please help x

Really sorry about your results. Did the clinic have a genetic counsellor? Parental karyotyping to see if one of you has a balanced translocation involving chromosome 22 may be needed. Having this information could help estimate the likelihood of reocurrence.

Not that I’m aware of. We’re back home in England now. They did mention the karyotype test but said it costs a lot of money and all ivf procedures and procotols are the same so it wouldn’t make a difference. We have naturally conceived my daughter prior to all this amongst some miscarries. Second infertility it what they think i could have.

@Nazy87 it's true that the solution would still be PGTA, or possibly an enhanced version, but the results might enable an estimate of the % chance of unimpacted embryos to help you plan next steps. Realise everything in this game is £££ though.

Lifestyle factors to optimise egg quality are worth doing anyway but they unfortunately won't impact euploidy/ carrier issues.

Have you had this test done or would you know of anywhere that does it?

I haven't had it done but the cost shows as £390 at my clinic (King's in London). Which city are you in?

Possibly also worth speaking to your GP on the off chance they'd support a referral for NHS karyotyping even though you have a child. Mention your results and previous miscarriages.

I’m from stoke on Trent. London over 3 hours away

@Nazy87 Manchester may be the best option for you but check for more local services.

Hi. Sorry hope you don’t mind me jumping in, just I had the testing done , my partner and I both had the karyotyping which was free from the NHS recurrent miscarriage clinic , we live in Scotland so not sure if different in England but after 3 miscarriages you can be referred to the clinic and they will test this test, and some other tests for you, hope this helps xx

Thank you so much. Both of you. Will definitely give this a try. Hope you don’t me me asking but we’re your results okay? My husband keeps saying maybe it was just a bad batch of sperm but something inside of me is telling me there’s a lot more to it. I am a constant stress head with every little thing, wish I wasn’t

@Nazy87 unless it's some kind of lab error the results point to a possible carrier issue just because aneuploidy is usually entirely random (different chromosomes affected every time). All the same by total chance rather than an underlying cause seems unlikely.

Our results came back ok, I also had the sticky bloods test done for free by NHS, these test are free for everyone no matter what your income so strongly suggest contacting your GP to be referred. You will always wonder and the more you can ‘eliminate’ to not be the cause, the more you can focus on what may be the cause, we have took 6 years and 6 miscarriages later and we eventually have two euploid which we hope to put in soon 🤞🏽 don’t give up! I do suggest your partner taking CoQ10 as this helps sperm and you can also take as it helps egg quality too. and your can refer your partner to a urologist? Best of luck and I hope things work for you
