IVF Waitlists - Midlands, Leicester

chronicovershare · 25/08/2025 18:41

Wondered if anyone has experience with IVF waitlists in the midlands/Leicester specifically…

I am 30 (f) and OH is 33 (m) We had 2 MMC in 2024, last in August ‘24 and haven’t fallen pregnant since.

GP referred for IVF in July ‘25. The NHS prediction is 19 weeks for first appt, but I wondered if anyone had any recent experiences? How long did you wait?

I dont know the answer to your question

Care fertility often dont have much wait & do nhs
( theres a care in b ham i believe )

Sorry to hear of your losses

Have you asked your gp to do blood clotting speed test ? - if not - i recommend that

Thank you so much for your answer! Sorry I should have made it clear I was looking for NHS experiences as we’d like to take advantage of the funded round before paying if possible! Although it IS tempting to go private of course…

I have had lots of tests thankfully, I’m under the recurrent miscarriage clinic with the NHS who have given us the all clear on everything bar gene karotyping (not tested) and my OH having a slightly low (4%) morphology. So we’re at a loss for reasons too sadly!

Issue is
Nhs band = so wide

So NHS tested my blood clotting speed

Gp said ok - ivf consultant said not ok

( i needed blood thinners )

Care fertility take NHS patients & often don't have much of a wait

Oh that's so exciting congratulations!!

That's really interesting about the clotting too...

I think my issue right now is getting from GP referral to initial gyne consultation stage where they ok funding etc. So I'm guessing I couldn't go to Care until that is done?

Mine was gynae to fertility / care
But care / ivf clinic did funding - but mine was different / complex as i ended up having ' exceptional funding '

But yes ' normally the pathway is gynae and then clinic

Although depending on your age & circumstances - it may depend if gp may just go to clinic

AlmostTime · 26/08/2025 12:00

My path sounds similar.

GP referral to Fertility clinic was November 2024. After some to and fro to repeat tests, they accepted us December 2024 but the appointment was in June 2025.

In Feb 2025 we received a cancellation and it was rebooked for the following week.

There were a lot of re tests, scans and gaps between seeing the NHS nurse and consultant, but eventually we were referred to Care in April, who applied for funding. That was very quick. Care were very good and a nurse appointment was booked a week later, we then needed a scan and some more bloods.

First appointment with Care consultant was June 2025

I have found the constant inefficiency with weeks or in the NHS months between steps really stressful. Each time you see them it feels like there is ‘one more thing’ and then you can get started. In reality, the one more thing is a scan or a blood test that needs to be at a specific point in your cycle, then there is no appointment at the right time, or you’re just past that point and have to wait for the next month to book it. Care have been better, but I have still lost 2 months due to slow admin, appointment availability or pharmacy delivery. I did phone the NHS clinic to ask for an update on my test results after 2 weeks as I’d heard nothing, they had them, and she booked me in for the following week. I do wonder if they would have left it another few weeks before contacting me if I hadn't chased. That was a viral screen as part of the referral, not for diagnosis.

If you can afford private treatment I would, especially if you want to get started within a year. I thought it was worth waiting a month or two to save the money, but it will be a year soon and I’ve only just finished finished my first egg collection. Now waiting once again to see the consultant, then likely a nurse to plan the frozen transfer, I highly suspect this will fall just after my cycle restarts and so I will be waiting another month to get going with that.

To add: Our diagnosis is ‘unexplained’ so we have not had any investigations, just the first line checks and scans, all have been in the normal range so I think our experience has been quick by comparison to couples where they may need to investigate things further for you, I imagine it would be even longer if you need to have a HyCoSy or other investigation as part of your referral.

worldwidetravel2017 · 26/08/2025 13:42

You can get a private hyfosy and NHS accept that
( i did that , cost 515 gbp & was much faster )

This is actually interesting though as I would expect GP referral to gyne to take longer than this! At the moment they're saying 19 weeks average but I'll be stunned if it is anywhere near that.

Gyne are also seeing me for recurrent miscarriage and it is wildly frustrating because its the same consultant but he won't discuss infertility with me during recurrent miscarriage appointments - I get why but I did cry at him last time haha.

I'm lucky in that we've had a lot of testing already because of the recurrent miscarriage. The thing we're missing is HyCoSy and AMH tests but otherwise I believe we've had everything (scans, bloods, etc).

Toying with going for an initial private consultation, but the 10k for IVF is something my OH is particularly reluctant to do if the NHS option is still possible, just a wait... Particularly as we were pregnant twice last year - but nothing in over a year is beyond heartbreaking.

This was recommended to me by a few people actually who said they fell pregnant naturally not long after HyCoScy (!)

You sound like me! I'm a "fixer" so I just want to find solutions at every turn. The waiting drives me crazy!
I'm thinking a private HyCoSy and AMH test may be my text step - sometimes its even just about feeling like I'm doing something during the wait!

Hi Chronicovershare,

We’re based in Leicestershire too with LRI being our Gyne hospital.

My husband and I were referred by our GP December 2024, first gynaecology appointment in March 2025 and were meant to have a follow up October 2025 so the gap between each gyne appointments are long and frustrating. Which hospital are you being referred to?

You may be asked for further bloods and a HSG completed, depending what the results were from initial bloods with GP which were fast to complete but trying to get answers between is pretty hard work! I would suggest to continue ringing for an update of where you are on the waiting list, as you’re more likely to get added to a cancellation list.

We have been since diagnosed with unexplained infertility and have been referred to LFC after 4 years TTC, with our first appointment this week.

Sorry if repeating anything you may know but just my experience within Leicester! :)

Hi there! Wow thank you this is so helpful!!

Referral is to LRI and being with them for recurrent miscarriage I know how long their gyne waits seem to be !!

It is crazy you’ve had a year between referral and getting to LFC… I think our plan is to go go private with LFC for a HSG and maybe a couple of the further bloods they suggest and pray that’ll speed us up…

Thank you again so much and best of luck with your journey forwards, I hear really good things about LFC ✨

I am the same!

Feeling like I am making some kind of proactive progress definitely improves my mind. Even though I have a long way still to go, the last 2 months since starting the IVF treatment (even with gaps) has made me realise how depressed I’ve been for the past few years. I knew I was miserable, but looking back it was definitely more than that!

If you’re similarly driven and you can afford to do some private investigations while you wait, I think it’s money well spent for progress sake as well as getting the actual results.

I saw a private consultant in April 2024 who did some baseline tests for us both and talked us through all the options which made it easier to pick which tests to spend money on.

It’s such a horrible place to be and really hard - my friends and family are lovely but you can’t understand unless you’re in the pits of it, really. It’s just never somewhere anyone expects to be and it’s awful.

I keep telling myself I should be enjoying my life right now but it’s so difficult when something feels like it’s missing.

I hope that it’ll make the outcome all the more sweet, and I know you’ll get there ☺️

I'm about a month late to this, but I am also Leicester based on an NHS referral. After tests with our GP, we were referred to the LRI in December 2024. We had an initial appointment in February, with a follow-up in June, where gynaecology approved our referral to the Fertility Centre. We just had our first planning meeting with the LFC, so I'm hoping that treatment will start soon.

We are having ICSI. I'd love to chat to anyone in the Leicester or East Midlands area about to go through IVF/ICSI!

Hello! That's not to shabby in terms of wait time - given me some hope!

Our GP referral was July 2025 and still waiting at the moment, but I'm going to see LFC privately in the meantime to try and get some testing balls rolling (I figure paying for a few tests is cheaper than the IVF but might speed us up?!)

Hoping I'll be in that boat sooner rather than later... But at the moment I'm checking my NHS app for waiting list updates daily 😂

It's not a test offered on the NHS but helped me

Hi there! Thanks for your message :)

I am actually now waiting on a Tommy's appointment in three months and hoping they will do NK testing as it could be a factor for us.

For anyone else looking: Since this post, we did get our IVF appointment through in December, but we were pregnant. That sadly ended in a third miscarriage, but has taken us off the IVF list for now.
