dEFT test and endometritis/infection

Hi,
I am hoping there is someone who has been in a similar situation and could advise from their experience.
We had the endometrium function test done in Coventry and it found pretty high infection / endometritis. I completed 14 days worth of antibiotics and I am going off to retest soon (not looking forward to it!!) to see if things cleared.

Any of you who also had endometritis and found it the antibiotics helped / cleared the infection?

Once infection has cleared, has this improved infertility issues?

We have been TTC for 5 years naturally and 2 years of IVF. 3 failed transfers later, we have embryos left but a bit worried if they ever succeed!

Thank you so much!

Was it the Emma / Alice test?

Was it the Emma / Alice test?

Hi! No - it's the test done in collaboration with Tommy's charity - based in Coventry hospital, I have seen a thread / mentions of this here but not for a while so wanted to check in on the latest experience.

@BerksBlondie hi, can I ask you about your experience at Coventry please? I am considering going for recurrent implantation failure. Did they prescribe you the antibiotics?

Cesas · 10/09/2025 09:39

I recently went to Coventry and have had a good experience. I have had 4 previous failed transfer with no implantation whatsoever. I have endometriosis and it appears that my womb lining changes too quickly not allowing enough time for implantation. Im going to go back and get retested taking less progesterone to see if this makes a difference if not they recommend steroids or an endometrial scratch. If the clinic recommend you take this or antibiotics they post a prescription to you. Hope this helps.

@Cesas thank you so much for this info it sounds really good but unfortunately I emailed them to see how long their waitlist is and they said they’re not currently taking any new patients. Did you already know you had the endo before you went there,

Cesas · 10/09/2025 14:54

Thats a shame, hopefully they will take new patients again soon. I had to wait 3 months for my initial appointment but after that everything was very quick. I had the biopsy the following cycle and the results took 3-4 weeks. Yes I already had a diagnosis of endo before I went. X

TSHconfusion · 10/09/2025 18:04

Yes I was 3 months at the start of the year when I looked into it but they’re not even adding to the waitlist now which is annoying. How did you get your endo diagnosis if you don’t mind me asking or was that done separately to the fertility issues?

EnglishRain · 10/09/2025 20:25

I am meant to be having an appt for this in November and was considering cancelling. Hearing they aren’t taking on anyone new is making me think I better not!

I am under a Tommy’s clinic elsewhere, and the person I am under doesn’t seem to think this test is up to much. Feel a bit torn about what to do.

How did you find the test @BerksBlondie? I had a hysteroscopy with biopsy under GA recently and wondering if it would be similar to that or not…

TSHconfusion · 10/09/2025 23:20

@EnglishRain i did mention to my consultant I was thinking of going and he didn’t seem to think too much of it either but he doesn’t think there’s enough evidence for the likes of Emma/alice and ERA etc

Cesas · 11/09/2025 09:00

I had an endometrioma so I was diagnosed with endo at my first fertility ultrasound. I have always had issues with awful periods and had an ultrasound a year before through gyae but I wasn't diagnosed then.

I think there has not been that much research into endometrial receptivity currently so it's hard to work out if it is worth it or not. Also I know nk cell testing can be controversial as well as the ERA tests etc. So I do think there are mixed views.

I personally didn't find the biopsy that bad. It was pretty sore for a minute then I had dull period cramps afterwards x

TSHconfusion · 11/09/2025 20:22

@Cesas thats annoying it wasn’t picked up on the first scan, it does seems that ultrasound isn’t the best way to get a good look for endo.

yes I had a thyroid antibody test today as I read that most people with those have nk cells but it’s all just trial and error without proper trials and evidence really.

I had an endometrial scratch before my last transfer which I thought was fine just was like a cramp for a few seconds then over, I think it’s the same process as getting the biopsy. But I did read on bbc yesterday that a watchdog is trying to banned them as there is no evidence for them either!
