Is clexane/heparin/inhixa safe with the prenatal proceive woman or pregnacare ?

Hi ladies. Starting our first ivf cycle next week. I was told by the nurse to stop omega 3 as it can increase clexanes blood thinning effect. But I've also noticed a large amount of vit a and e in proceive woman. I've messaged the clinic no response yet.

Anyone have experience with clexane /heparin/inhixa during ivf? What supplements were you ok to take alongside?

Thanks

I've been on clexane with my current cycle and I've been taking my vitamins as normal (ovum and omega 3). I wasn't told anything by the clinic about not mixing it with any supplements although I have never asked explicitly as have never heard it before. But I would take the advice of your clinic. I thought vitamin a was to be avoided though- surprised its in proceive.

Thanks. Yeh they said definitely stop omega 3. The multivitamin I take has beta carotene in it which the body converts to vit a as and when needed so perhaps that's actually ok as its not directly got vit a in it. I hope

Hi if you don't mind me asking did ovum work well for you. I am thinking of switching to it. Did you get many embryos? X

Hi @Needamiracle12. It's hard to say really. I've been using it for a couple of years now and I've had really mixed rounds. My last round I made 7 blasts and 6 were genetically normal. The round before that though we made 0 blasts out of 20 eggs. We do have some male factor issues but we'd also had previous rounds using my partners sperm where we'd made a couple of blasts. It does seem to have most of the supplements recommended from It Starts with the Egg though so figured it can't hurt 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've noticed that it really does vary from cycle to cycle. It does make me wonder whether supplements even really help. Amazing that you got 6 genetically normal that's such a good outcome. Do you think you did anything different that mightve helped? X

I think it was probably that my partner got a varicocele embolised. It was only borderline and we'd previously been advised not to bother and to do surgical sperm retrieval but that's when we actually ended up with 0 fertilisation. We haven't tested his sperm since for dna fragmentation but the clinic said the parameters they can see through a microscope definitely improved. That's the only major thing we did differently for the cycle. I focused on a high protein diet aswell (20% protein, less than 40% carbs) but I'd been doing that for the 0 fert cyle too - I did get more eggs with both of these rounds than I did on my previous two rounds though so maybe it made a difference there. We were with a different clinic as well so slightly different protocol with clexane and dexamethasone alongside the stims - so perhaps it was a combination of a few things or perhaps it was pure luck! Best of luck for your first cycle, its a difficult way to have to conceive but hopefully worh it in the long run 🙏

SprinklesOfHope · 18/07/2025 07:34

Hi @FancyGoose great news on your results. May I jump in and ask how long you left the embolisation before your round. We are looking to do it after a failed round so any info or tips would be amazing. Thank you so much !!

FancyGoose · 18/07/2025 09:44

We waited 74 days which was what our consultant recommended as the minimum. However, by the time he actually had to give a sample for the egg collection it had been 90 days. Around 3 months tends to be the standard advice. I don't know where you're based but we saw Prof Minhas and I'd highly recommend him if you're near London. We also saw Mr Jonathan Ramsey who is a bit famous on here but I actually much preferred Prof Minhas and the advice we got from him has yielded far better results (so far at least!). We also were able to get the embolism on my partners health insurance- we just had to say it was causing him pain so if you have any insurance through work definitely look into that. Any other questions, just let me know :)

SprinklesOfHope · 18/07/2025 10:05

We have actually seen Jonathan Ramsey and he has recommend an embolisation with Steven moser next week but we also just got our second round of funding through so wondering whether to push it back and wait for the outcome.
what were the differences in terms of treatment they offered ? How was the recovery , we thinking of train next week but not sure if it’s too ambitious. Also did yiu do another semen test ? Did you notice an improvement in the parameters of just in terms of your IVF results. Kind of don’t want to delay treatment if this won’t actually make a difference but it’s so hard to say! Confused

FancyGoose · 19/07/2025 09:10

@SprinklesOfHope so Ramsey suggested we do a surgical sperm retrieval as we were 'too far gone' for an embolism but following that is actually when we had our worst round ever withb0 fert. But I appreciate these things are trial and error and we might have just been unlucky. But just a shame as prof minhas' advice was the embolism and that obviously seems to have produced better results for us and was less invasive and free whereas the SSR was very expensive. I also just found Jonathan Ramsey a bit arrogant and thought he sold the SSR to us as a bit of a silver bullet. But obviously lots of people rave about him and he's clearly very experienced and an expert in his field so probably just our experience. We didn't officially test the semen again as, like you, we didn't want to delay things and also didn't want an additional cost as we knew we were going to try again with my partner's sperm no matter what so it didn't seem to matter. But the embryologist told us it was a lot better than the previous samples but didn't give us anything else and dna frag was a big thing for us and we haven't retested that.

How did your first round go in terms of results? It is really hard to know what to do for the best, especially when it's a gamble as to whether it will make a difference or not. I will say that although the three months felt like a really long time to wait, it did go fast and in the grand scheme of things it's not really long at all - although I know every month that goes by is a killer when you're ttc!

SprinklesOfHope · 20/07/2025 06:36

We also bit frustrated with Ramsey as we saw him last year before our first cycle and he suggested not to do the embolization. And now with a failed round (we got 30% fertilised and made one euploid, the one euploid unfortunately we miscarried) he thinks it could be DNA fragmentation and now saying to do the embolisation. We then also paid for a dna fragment test which we waiting on results from but either way it’s the same route to do the embolisation so not sure why we did it but he said info is power.

we have our nhs planning appointment next week but will probably ask to push back the treatment so we can get the full 90 days benefit. It’s been a really hard year with the miscarriage and all the waiting so bit gutted we have to wait again but as you said it’s worth it and hopefully go quickly. When will you look to transfer ? So pleased you have so many in the freezer to give you a chance of a family

thank you for sharing it has given us hope at quite a hard time x

FancyGoose · 20/07/2025 08:07

We actually transferred last week and today just found out it stuck 🙏😭 just praying the good news continues but we had a missed miscarriage a couple of years ago following our first round and a chemical on our second round so it's hard to stay hopeful.

Really sorry to hear about your miscarriage too, it feels particularly cruel after IVF doesn't it. It's such a tough journey and I know your pain. Our cycles went progressively worse and worse until we had this embolism and changed clinics so I really hope it makes a difference for you both as well. X

SprinklesOfHope · 20/07/2025 08:36

@FancyGooseoh congratulations what wonderful news for you!! You have had such a long journey and I really hope this is your time. Sending you all the love and best wishes as you navigate this next phase. I know this may bring up some mixed emotions for you but enjoy and take each day as it comes. So pleased for you! 🌈🤍

FancyGoose · 21/07/2025 15:10

Thank you @SprinklesOfHope for your lovely message. And I really hope that the next round works out for you both. So grateful for mumsnet and the support we can give each other through here xx

That's really interesting! My dh has a small varicocele too but we were also told it's borderline and probably not worth doing. But his dna frag is really good so hopefully this works. I am also doing high protein low carb. Just sitting on edge atm bricking it as I am terrified of going through ivf - waiting for my period to start. Due today nothing yet but definitely pmsy. Ahhh. Thank you for your well wishes and a massive congratulations to you as I think from your other msgs you've had your bfp. You guys must be over the moon ❤️ xx

Thanks @Needamiracle12 - we're really happy but it is nerve wracking too after previous losses. But reminding myself this is a different pregnancy 😊 great that your husband has good dna frag - I do think that might have been our main problem all these years. Good luck with your cycle - sending you lots of luck. I've never found the physical side of IVF too hard (and I love the sedation for egg collection 🤣) but it is tough mentally/emotionally. Xx
