Are our clinic statistics poor?

I'm due to start treatment next month , currently started contraceptive pill 2 weeks ago for them to plan treatment timing. However, I've just came across their statistics, which weren't available before and they seem quite low. Below national average. I've compared this with second clinic , although they have a higher number of transfers. Do you think the better statistics are reflected as a result of that? I'm contemplating switching. Any advice? My maths isn't the greatest . I'm in the above 38 bracket. What's your thoughts

Our clinic
Under 38
108 embryos transferred
27% clinic
34% national average

Over 38
58 embryos transferred
10% clinic
17% national average

................
Second clinic
Under 38
545 embryos transferred
32%
34% national average

Over 38
261 embryos transferred
16%
17% national average

I should add the doctor at my clinic at appointment told me the success rate for my age is 30% (38 and over) how does he get 30% when it says clinic rates for my age is 10% ? Am I misunderstanding how statistics work or was the doctor not telling the truth regarding statistics

39 during process and literally just turned 40. My first clinic had a HEFA result of 7% for over 38 - my round ended with a chemical. My second clinic had much higher rates and I’m now 6 weeks. It is a big difference compared to national average so you may be better finding a clinic that has better stats for age group x

@confused2025 congratulations. I hope this pregnancy goes smoothly for you. It definitely gives me hope as I'm turning 40 this year myself.
We only have the options for 2 clinics here ( I'm in n.ireland) so unfortunately it has to be one or the other. Were very blessed to have one child from previous ivf, but having him also rules out travelling further afield to find a clinic.
I just can't wrap my head around statistics, definitely not my strong point.
I'm contemplating switching since the second clinic , seems more consistent with national but I've already started the pill and it would delay treatment for months and I've already started on the pill prepping. I think every month that goes by at this age I find more stressful trying to switch clinics but 10% from a national rate of 17% seems very poor doesn't it? I wonder would it be higher if they had a similar number of transfers as the other clinic or if that number is already a bad indication. We aren't due to make our payment for another 2 weeks. It's alot to think about.

@VioIetMoonThank you so much. I’m so scared for my viability scan on Monday. I'm in NI too. My first round was with RFC and honestly I think I would have had more chance winning euromills than having a success from there. I did look at other clinics and with TFP - most of the consultants were from RFC so I wasn’t too inclined to go there. I’m currently with Therapie and had to go to Dublin for Egg collection and Transfer and some tests at the very start of the process, but Emily in Belfast is fab for scans and bloods. I think it depends on what your case is though - they may not be the best for complex cases though. We are unexplained infertility but I worked on certain things like stress and thyroid. Here if there’s anything I can help you with x

@confused2025 I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience with rfc. We did our first round at rfc 2 years ago and were very lucky it worked .we had a good experience with them but I think they are very limited in what they can do. Our embryos were awful quality so had nothing left to freeze so it's back to the drawing board.
Ah try not to worry. Its extremely scary I know. At my viability scan, I couldn't even look at the monitor and it wasnt helped by the fact they couldn't locate the baby due to location and it took 3 of them to scan me. I was very unsettled throughout pregnancy. I lost count how many scans I had. I could be wrong but I think I remember you from another thread on here. It may have been the May thread

Yeah I think it’s just not set up for success for older patients and we had the same thing happen where we had a fresh transfer but he others didn’t survive to day 5 or 6. Yes, I had my transfer end of May so was in the May FET thread. Just trying to stay calm over here. I hope everything works out for you and your next cycle and make sure you advocate for yourself if you think something isn’t right. I will say, I think it was an easier process 2nd time around with kind of knowing what to expect.

I hope you don’t mind me jumping in, also from NI and trying to decide between clinics at the moment. Can I ask where you found their statistics? We are edging towards TFP as if offers PGTA testing, which I don’t think other clinics offer.

It’s such a big decision isn’t it, so daunting.

confused2025 · 26/06/2025 02:24

Hi @HelloItsJaney89we are referring to the HFEA data - https://www.hfea.gov.uk/choose-a-clinic/clinic-search/. This recently refreshed but it is up just up to end of 2022. TFP are in line with UK stats but if you look at Sims in Dublin or the Beacon which both have success rates much higher than TFP, it might be worth considering a clinic there or abroad. I think a lot of this comes down to age and circumstances but I do think that options for 38 + age group in NI are not great.

Both Sims and The Beacon do PGTA testing

Thank you for this. It’s very interesting. The only Irish clinic we had looked at previously was Therapie, but that was before we decided that PGTA testing would be best for us. I know the journey is only 3hours, but it does put me off slightly. I imagine I will be very stressed during the process, so thinking the closer to home the better for me. But I’ll definitely look into those other clinics too. I’m 36, but with a history of miscarriage. I can conceive naturally but egg quality is poor so that’s why we’re opting for IVF with pgta. We have a consultation at TFP coming up soon so trying to gather my questions for them at the moment.

confused2025 · 26/06/2025 08:27

@HelloItsJaney89if it’s egg quality you are concerned about, have you spoken to anyone on this? There’s Unqlife in Dublin (you can get virtual appointments) or looking at microbiome and immunology testing?

worldwidetravel2017 · 26/06/2025 10:17

Highly recommend pgta testing at that age

( helped us avoid more miscarriage pain and transfer a pgta normal embryo )
