Holiday after fresh transfer

I am doing my first NHS round this summer, and it has worked out well as it falls over my 6 week holiday (teacher) so I have space to deal with the physical/emotional fall out without my stressful job/standing up in front of classes

However, this is also the only time we can go on holiday. We've just come into some money and are desperate to have a relaxing beach holiday after a difficult year where I have had two emergency hospitalisations with fairly long stays, alongside endless appointments with gynes and IVF doctors.

Hyperemesis runs in my family so I wouldn't risk booking somewhere too long after transfer in case I am successful, so I am thinking if we went to Spain or wherever for a week a few days after transfer would be best. I may also not even make it to transfer because I have a hydrosalpinx that may rear it's ugly head!

Can anyone with more IVF wisdom forsee a reason why we couldn't travel in the 2WW?

I think you would need to stay away from the Spa (saunas/hot tubs/baths) and the pool but other than that I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t x

Hey @Rankin11 I've never travelled after a transfer but I'm thinking it should be okay? People go abroad for treatment so they will be flying/be abroad during the 2ww. Like @confused2025 said I would just avoid spa type places! Best of luck and enjoy your break! 😊

I was listening to a BFN podcast episode where they asked the expert on this. He said flying isn’t an issue, but risk of OHSS is and ideally you don’t want to be too far from the clinic in the weeks after the transfer. Various issues around if you need to be checked out, seen by the clinic, if you’re in a different time zone, language barriers abroad etc. So it’s not the flying but just they advised generally against going away during 2WW.
Caveating this as don’t have IVF experience (earlier on in the “journey”) but been binge listing to infertility content.

Thank you for all your responses!
I asked our fertility nurse today and she said she sees no issue with it as long as we are in reach of medical attention and have enough progesterone.

We would be back before I am 5 weeks.

I've looked into insurance especially for post-IVF and it does it exist, so we will cancel or come home early if it's medically necessary.

I will have a listen to the BFN podcast too!

I think a holiday in the 2ww is probably a great idea, you will be relaxed, mind will be busy with doing things, lots of walking along the beach and site seeing, you will be in a positive mood, good food variety.

@Rankin11
Hi OP - the best is to check with your hospital as you’ve done. We flew right after the two week wait and testing positive. From previous experience, and a failed IVF round, we were called in for a blood test after the 2WW, so decided to go away after this period. Personally, I felt fine travelling. Just be on top of packing your meds, supplements and researching a nearby hospital in case you need it. The hospital gave me compression socks to wear for the flight and suggested I get up to walk as regular as possible. X
