Spare IVF Drugs no longer required

Holidayonthemoon · 07/06/2025 14:48

I’ve got some IVF drugs left that I no longer need. All within date and all stored correctly. Just wondering if anyone knows anywhere I can donate these to.

They were expensive, but I’m reluctant to just bin them.

Drop the clinic an email and ask

I’ve done that, they’ve just advised me
to surrender them and they’ll dispose of them for me.

@Holidayonthemoonif there is a Facebook IVF group for your area, it might be easier to identify someone there or learn how your meds can go to someone deserving

No! The op is not a HCP

she can’t hand out drugs to anyone who puts their hands up

I have the same - got 900iu of Gonal F and one dose of Fyremadel. It’s worth about £400 and the clinic won’t take it back 😞

Let me know if you find a solution. Would love to donate if possible.

I will do - I’ve got £1500 worth of inhixa as my
dose was changed. It seems such a waste to just bin it.

the Clinic changed your dose but you’d already invested thousands in the existing dose?

This isn’t AIBU. Go back over there if you want to wind people up.

No im saying it sounds as though the clinic messed up

but heavens… I’ll leave you to it!

I understand it might seem wasteful but you can't donate your prescription medication and you shouldn't try to find ways to do it. It's illegal.
Your clinic/pharmacy can't take it back either not because they're being difficult, they're not allowed to redispense returned medication. As your clinic advised, you should take it back to them or your GP/pharmacist so they can dispose of it safely. You can't just bin them.

I hope the £1,500 was a typo though. Based on what I pay for Inhixa that's about 170 doses. If your clinic made a mistake I would suggest you make a complain and see if you can get some of your money back.

Our clinic will take back medication and use them for training purposes on fake skin and this allows the patient to actually use the injection on something in practice and see how it all is used. Also our local chemist takes unused needles and disposes of them but they dont take sharps bins but further in town they take the used needles and dispose of them. We are not advised to hand over prescription medication to other people as this is unsafe practice, all prescribed medication should be prescribed and kept on track by the doctor and also there is chances for contamination or wrong doses. If your clinic is happy to take them back then id suggest doing that.

You have circa 170 doses going spare? And now your clinic has put you on a different dosage?

Either the clinic has some answering to do as to why they sold such a vast amount in one go
or
you bulk bought bought off Facebook or equivalent

Thanks, this is helpful - I’ll contact a couple of local clinics and see if they could use them for this purpose.

At the risk of getting into the ins and outs of my medical history, I have a fair bit of medication left over as I have had quite a few cycles of the last couple of years. If I was planning on future cycles I’d just hang onto them.

If I was happy to purchase dodgy drugs via Facebook surely I’d just resell them back on there.

Anyway, grateful to those posters that have provided helpful suggestions.

I had leftovers and brought them back to the pharmacy. i certainly wouldn’t be giving them out to someone else, it is madness. Who is responsible if that person has a reaction to the drugs etc ? I wouldn’t take drugs from someone’s private house anyway. No way of knowing if they were stored correctly etc or even where they came from. It’s just a really bad idea.
