Low progesterone/luteal phase defect - what helps?

Been TTC a while and I have low progesterone. I always have spotting for a week before my period so I assume this would be classed as a luteal phase defect?

is there anything that has helped anyone become pregnant? Clomid or progesterone suppositories?

I have had problems ovulating in the past due to my overactive thyroid but this is now under control. Id prefer to take clomid rather than the suppositories just because I have difficulty with inserting them.

Thank you!

It's not helped yet but I have cyclogest (progesterone) prescribed from Plan Your Baby. I had short luteal phase and Dr Sami prescribed it for me to try for a few months. You can also order tests from Proov to check if your progesterone levels and Plan Your Baby will prescribe with those results.

It was around £100 for a consultation from Plan Your Baby and I am so impressed with the support I have received. The consultation was super helpful as he went through all mine and DH results and picked up a few things (like thyroid) that hadn't been spotted by NHS.

@HM2024

I’ll have a look into this thank you. Do you suffer from pre period spotting too?

I’m due to see my endocrinologist in a couple of weeks to check on my thyroid progress so I’m hoping they’ll be able to prescribe something to help!

Yes, I was constantly getting a few days of spotting before my period. I've taken Cyclogest for 3 cycles now (just started 4th). The 1st cycle I didn't have any difference, but cycles 2 & 3, I had a longer luteal phase. I do still get spotting but the Dr didn't seem concerned about that.

I think I'm the opposite with thyroid and was underactive. My TSH was really high at 4.9 (highest on my NHS area's 'normal') and ideally it should be 2.5 or lower. After 3 months of thyroxine, it's now down at below 1.
