How long after first meeting at ACU do you start?

We have our first meeting in a couple of weeks at Jessops ACU in Sheffield.

How long after this appointment will we likely start IVF? Will it be the next available cycle even though it could only be 2 weeks after the appointment?

Hi @Roseberry22

i am also at Jessops, had my first appointment last week.
we are starting treatment next week! Exciting.

but we have already had all of the investigatory things done first!

if you have had all those bits done, things move fast! X

Oh wow really that’s so quick!

I hope we don’t hit anymore hurdles, we should have had an appointment with dr skull but that was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances so now we have an appointment with someone else.

do you mind me asking what they went through on the first appointment, we’ve had all the tests done at jessops already and have received the paperwork in the post.

Good luck for your cycle 🤞🏼🤞🏼🍍

No I don’t mind at all!

we are with Dr Tamhankar as when we were privately paying, that’s who we saw so we waited a bit longer so we could stay with her at Jessops.

in our appointment we just went through our options and my long list of questions! (I’m a serial researcher) 🤣.

I had a laparoscopy so she could clear my tubes back in Jan, so the appointment was actually to start IUI, however I had read a lot about low success rates etc so I wanted to go straight to IVF but I didn’t know if that was our decision or whether the IUI had to be done as is NHS funded now.

she was very good and said it’s completely my decision. She recommended 1 round of IUI using the same medication I’d have during IVF to see how I respond then move to IVF, so what’s what we agreed.

then she went through time scales and the process, and I had some baseline bloods to see where my cycle was as I don’t really have one.

we’re back this Monday to see the nurse, and then we go from there! 🙏🏼

how are you feeling? Do you mind me asking are you going for IVF?

good luck 🍀

That’s good that she actually listened to you and fingers crossed the round of IUI works and you won’t actually need IVF, it’s worth a go if she thinks there could be some success from it!

I believe we’ll be going straight to ivf/icsi, we’ve been trying for over 2 years and we’ve got mild male factor infertility, good count but reduced motility and morphology. My hsg/ultrasound didn’t show anything when I had that in December.

We will see what they say at the appointment though in just under 3 weeks! Such an exciting but daunting time.

if you ever want to message me to talk about anything then please do! x

Yeah she was really good. I’m happy to go with the IUI but almost trying to think of it as a ‘pre IVF’ treatment rather than a round on its own as I know the success rate is low.

how do you feel about the IVF?
really good that the hsg/ultrasound was clear, that a big positive!

we are the opposite, male factor is fine, but I have PCOS which is quite severe and she found endo on the lap surgery but she said is really mild.

Absolutely, It’s really nice to speak to someone on a similar timeline! After the IUI, our IVF’s might be at a similar time!

It is very daunting but like you say exciting! We haven’t been trying so long but I had no cycles at all, so not really a chance to ‘try’.

would love to keep in touch!

Hi, I am also under at jessops and I have my first appointment very soon what is the appointment all about and how quickly do you start treatment after? Hope everything went well with your treatment

Hannahx1992 · 09/10/2025 20:50

Hi!
the first appointment was really straight forward, took our forms and filled some in with the doctor. She weighed and took bloods to see where I was in my cycle. We can up with a treatment plan there and then.
my period started the following week, and treatment started straight away.
I had a medicated stimulated IUI and I’m now 22 weeks pregnant! I couldn’t believe it!

good luck to you! Everything crossed it goes well for you xx

JackyA13 · 10/10/2025 11:17

That’s absolutely amazing! You always hear not very good stories with IUI I’m glad yours were successful, how many tries did you have? Did you take medication first before the IUI? My first appointment is via telephone! .. thankyou so much xx

Hannahx1992 · 10/10/2025 14:37

It worked first try for us so we were really lucky! 🍀
Yes I had the same medication protocol that I would have had if I had progressed to IVF, but obviously a much much lower dose.
I had the stim injections and then a trigger shot to ovulate, and then all the medication following to help implantation.
the plan was to see how I responded so when we moved to IVF the following month, we had an idea of how it suited me.
I hadn’t responded at all to anything else we had tried before.
feel free to message me if you have any questions! Xx
