Uterine microbiome test

Hi there,

I'm curious to know people's opinions on checking your uterine microbiome to rule out causes of unexplained infertility. I've been TTC my second for over 2 years. Have done most other investigations and two failed rounds of ovulation induction. What are people's thoughts on the uterine microbiome test? I'm looking at the Screenme test where you send your menstrual blood as it is fairly affordable compared to the more invasive ones. I had a c section and know this can increase the risk of uterine infection. Is it worth doing?

Thank you 😊

Hey @secondtimelucky87 watching with interest to see the opinions of others who are maybe further through all this than I am - Fwiw my doctor had suggested the emma/alice biopsies after a failed FET to see if there could be an issue there so it seems like there's some merit to it.

I wasn't keen on doing the biopsy, but I've done some Invivo vaginal microbiome tests instead which are a swab test and tell you good/bad bacteria - I did one in December which was OK, then one very recently where it shows some bad bacteria.

At the moment I don't really have much of an idea of how significant it is and what it means for my next attempt at a frozen embryo transfer - I'm speaking to my consultant next week. I've seen loads of nutritionists on instagram saying that it's hugely important, and then doctors saying it's not the absolute be all and end all... I don't know! I'm expecting it to be something that needs resolving before another attempt at a transfer anyway.

Thank you so much for sharing. I feel like in the grand scheme of things it's not a huge expense at £250 so it's probably worth ruling out. I really can't afford the proper biopsy tests and think the Screenme one sounds reliable too, if not as thorough. Hopefully you will get some good advice from your consultants and others will be along to share their experience. I'm in a Facebook group for women dealing with secondary infertility and one lady was found to have a uterine infection from her Screenme test. Possibly caused by her first birth. The same company prescribed a course of antibiotics for her and her husband as well as probiotics. They advise then retesting after the treatment period has passed to check if it's worked. Wish you lots of luck for your next transfer.

I did the Emma and Alice tests. I considered the screen me tests but there isn’t as much evidence for it and there’s going to be contamination from your vaginal microbiome. My doc just did it the biopsy during my egg collection so I didn’t feel a thing and it didn’t require an extra procedure.

That's a good plan to.combine with egg collection, I'm doing FETs several months later otherwise would def do the biopsies at the same time!

I'm not doing IVF as it's secondary infertility so can't afford self-funded IVF or the biopsy test alas.
