Thin Uterus Lining- IVF Success?

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has gone through similar… Me (29f) and my OH (32m) are doing our first cycle of IVF due to unexplained infertility.

I’m currently on CD10 and have been for my US scan today and found out that although my follicles are all looking good my uterus lining is thin. The same thickness as my previous scan on CD7, measuring at 5.5mm.

This is a problem I’ve had before and has been seen in US scans, but no reason on why has been found. I’ve been working on improving my lining for the past year- lots of different supplements and vitamins, tried all the recommended foods, reflexology, hycosy and acupuncture… I guess I just feel very disheartened.

I’ve been asked to continue with my stims a little longer (ovaleap and ganirelix injections) and I’ll then go for another US on Wednesday when I’m on CD12, where they’ll access my progress if any and come up with a plan. The only saving grace is that my lining is of good quality with a trilaminar structure, even if it is thin.

I have Egg collection has been booked in for Friday on CD14. But I can’t help but feel so disheartened like it’s not going to work… just wondering if anyone has been through similar.

Thanks,
Emily :)

Hi,
I can't give you any success stories as I am still in the IVF process but wanted to share my experience as it is somewhat similar. I've had one round of IVF but didn't have any viable embryos to transfer. I had my review appointment today to look at changes to my protocol for my next IVF cyle. The doctor discussed how they will try to support my uterine lining if we do get to a transfer. My history is that I had some scarring on my uterine lining (they think from a previous erpc procedure after a molar pregancy) so had a hysteroscopy to remove the scarring - prior to this the thickest my lining ever got was 4.8mm. After the procedure during my ivf round my lining still only got to 5.7mm (even with the stim hormones) so my doctor has suggested a freeze all cycle again next time (we did a freeze all last time so we could do genetic testing). The reason for this is that since my lining didn't thicken as much as hoped with the stims, with a frozen cycle they can use eostrogen tablets and patches to try and thicken the lining before implanting an embryo - he said they can also try a few other medications too but will discuss this if we get any suitable ambryos from our next cyle.
I know that isn't much help but maybe if your lining isn't thick enough from the stims they could do something similar?

Hi,
firstly I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through another round of IVF and I wish you all the best with this next cycle that you get your baby.

I’m glad to learn that they are a few different things they could try but I’m just so sad that it probably won’t be this cycle. Hopefully this extra day on stims well help my lining but I know they’re weary incase I hyper-stimulate- but I guess I’ll find out tomorrow!

Do you mind me asking if you’re doing IVF via the NHS and if so, does this count as your second round since you didn’t get to transfer an embryo?

@MissEmily5 I'm sorry you are feeling sad about the possibility of not getting as far as you want this cycle. This process has so much waiting which is more emotionally difficult than I expected. I really hope that your scan tomorrow is positive and your lining has improved. Did your clinic say how thick they want it to be for a transfer?

We are private not NHS. After lots of fertility investigations on the NHS they said it was 'unexplained infertility' and l recievied a letter saying I would have an appointment to look at a referal for funded IVF - we waited almost a year (and made several phone calls to check in on the prgress) and I still hadn't recieved an appointment. Since i was already 39 we decided to go private (my local NHS authority only provides a 1 funded cycle and you have to be under 40). We have paid for a 2 cycle package so I have one more cycle left.

I am also doing all the things possible to support my lining (eating well, drinking pomegranate juice, acupuncture etc...) but not much luck at the moment 😕

@Allnew2021 thank you for your reply and sharing your experience- the wait times are god awful! And the fact you need to wait a year, sometimes 2 depending on your area before you can even be considered is horrendous.
I wish you all the luck in the world and you get your much wanted baby 🍀
