Ivf with a toddler (lifting/ tantrums)

Hello, i am doing ivf for hopefully our 2nd baby and so have no choice but to be lifting my toddler/ getting whacked in the tummy on times during nappy changes/ tantrums throughout the ivf cycle. I see all the recommendations of no heavy lifting/ no twisting abdomen during stims etc and that just isnt possible with a toddler. Has anyone else carried on their normal parenting toddler duties whilst doing ivf?

I think you'll be ok. The advice is primarily to do with the risk of ovarian torsion with heavy sustained body twisting.

Ive a 4 month old and a 3 year old (who had mobility issues so only started walking at 2, so we did lots of carrying). My wife works away a lot so I did a lot during stims and post IVF. I took 5 days proper rest after embryo transfer and then cracked on as usual. I get the mind set but just focus on things you can control, easier said than done I know! It’s the same as all the moms who have to have a c section for their second and have to ignore the post op advice. Not ideal but workable! Good luck.

You can resume your normal life with ivf and after transfer and if you happen to fall pregnant. You can very well still carry around your toddler, play around and even get the kicks to a certain degree. When they say no heavy lifting or anything, your specialist are usually talking about not lifting anything out of the ordinary or heavy weights, like no lifting heavy furniture or start lifting heavier weights or things like that. Every day to day things that you do on a regular basis you can comfortably continue doing. All through my stim cycles, and all through my pregnancies I continued to carry around and let my toddler jump all over me, I carried animal feed out of the car and Into the shed if no one was home to do it. I continued to clean out the chicken shed and all the things I do on a regular basis all the way through until I had the baby. My husband works long hrs and all my older kids go to school so me being home alone I have to get stuff done and attend to the younger kids. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone thats really helpful! I guess lifting my toddler is very much a part of my normal routine so my body is used to it!

Absolutely don’t worry about it. I’m currently 7months pregnant with my second (both IVF) and didn’t have a choice but to carry on as normal, especially as first one loves being carried. It did worry me at first but obviously it was fine. Good luck!
