AFC and AMH don't seem to correlate

We were amazingly lucky to conceive my DS on our first round of medicated IUI in 2020.
As I'm getting older I wanted to give it one last shot at trying for a sibling. We can afford one round of IVF. I'm being very realistic (to protect my heart) but know I don't want any regrets as I get older.

Anyway, we had our first appointment earlier in the week. My AFC is low (around 6). My cycles are also getting shorter each month and I'm spotting before my period which I never used to do.
My AMH results came back surprisingly ok at 12.6 (I'm 37) which I was shocked at to be honest.

Anyway the consultant said my AMH and AFC don't corelate and until we start IVF he won't know which one is true.
Has anyone had this before? I'm leaning towards 'believing' my AFC due to the shortening cycles.

AFC can vary monthly, AMH remains more stable. AFC can also be quite different depending on who has done the scan, when in your cycle and the resolution of the scanner.

Your AFC could increase, in other words, either naturally or once you start stimulation. Or you would probably at least get all 6 follicles responding to stimulation.

Good luck!

I was also quite confused by this. My initial AFC was 8 but AMH 16.9. I was also 37. Went through with IVF and ended up getting 16 eggs. I had read somewhere (I can't remember where now) that eggs retrieved seem to align more with AMH rather than AFC. My follicles did seem to increase and grow well with stims.
Good luck x

Thank you both for taking the time to reply to me. It makes more sense to me now. Thank you.
