Had trans-vaginal scan and blood test not adding up

I went for my transvaginal scan and the results came back normal. Corpus luteum present on my right ovary and endometrium as expected for day 18 of my cycle.

I had a progesterone bloodtest on day 24 of my cycle and it's come back as no significant luteal function so now I'm confused. What does this mean?

What did your blood test actually show?

If your scan proved ovulation and appropriate endometrial thickness I'd just ignore the test result. Perhaps you did it at the wrong time.

It came back showing as abnormal, with serum progesterone level 10nmol/L no significant luteal function

Ask your doctor for their opinion but I would assume this means you did the test too late and your progesterone had already fallen from its peak.

I did wonder. They didn't actually tell me what the test was for at the time, I've just got the results today. I'll mention it and see if they can re-test.

Sounds like when you did the scan you were close to ovulation or had already ovulated and the blood test was done once ovulation was over and no pregnancy was produced so progesterone dropped right back down. Though I think its best to talk to your doctor about your results

No - the corpus luteum being visible on the scan means ovulation 100% already happened. This is the structure left behind in the ovary after the egg has been released and is where the progesterone to support a pregnancy comes from.

It is more likely that ovulation was on the early side and the blood test was a day or two late.

For reference, I'm currently undergoing treatment and having regular blood tests (unrelated to progesterone but they're also monitored). Last Thursday my progesterone was 32.6. By Monday, just four days later, it was 3.
