Why wait so long for at home pregnancy test post FET

Hi there,

I’m looking for some advice. A little about me:

  • TTC for three years, I’m 34
  • I had my first FET last year, it was successful but we had to TFMR; Edwards Syndrome
  • 2nd FET fail
  • 3rd FET fail
  • 4th FET fail
  • We started testing our embryos with PGT-A and we recently did our 5th FET, another fail

I’m 7DP5DT and there’s a real squinter of a line from the trigger shot (which I’ve been testing out each day.)
On the one time I was pregnant I had a good line 7DP5DT and so I know it’s negative.

Every time I do a transfer the clinic wants me to wait 11 days, and I can’t think for the life of me why they make us wait so long when most women online show pictures of a positive 7DPT, does anyone know why?

On my third transfer, before my official ‘test day’, I literally came on my period and I rung the clinic to say I’m not pregnant, and they said it could be implantation bleeding and to keep taking all my medication which I thought was ridiculous and really annoyed me.

Can anyone offer any wisdom here please?

Thank you

I think it's because there are a lot of chemical cases; you can get a strong positive on day 7 but the HCG doesn't double (line don't darkened) as an example. So, to be safe side, the 'official' date is ~2 weeks from transfer. My experience tells me a urine test isn't sufficient as I would want to know the HCG number and retake it again every 2 days.. but even with knowing the numbers, nothing is within my control. The HCG can rise quickly and fall again... so maybe it's best not to know until anything happens...

As for the medications, I stop taking them from day 10 if I know it's non-viable. It is a personal choice, the clinics will advise you to keep taking them to be on the safe side. I think it just prolong the suffering based on my experience.

They usually ask to hold off testing because of the hcg trigger shots which can cause false positives right up to 12 days past post shot also it can be too early to test before 10 days after transfer if you didn't do a trigger shot as the embryo can take up to 6 days to implant of its slow which means there might not be sufficient hcg in the urine to have a proper positive test and then people assume it didn't work and stop taking their meds. I hope it's just too early for you to test right now and you have a positive cycle this time. I wish you all the best of luck

Thank you @MsPeony and @Miraclemuma03 .

Unfortunately I am testing fully negative this morning :( Absolutely no sign of the trigger shot at all. I'm 8DP5DT and 13 days post trigger. No sign of a chemical pregnancy either.

I've now had 4 transfers which failed to implant. I have a lovely 3-tier lining, good blood flow, and lining is always comfortably above 7mm. So this leads me to think there's is something wrong with my embryo quality. We never make 5AA or 4AA. My top quality once was a 5BB, and most often they're a BB or BC or CB.

Do you think there's any hope? I have embryos left but even the clinic has said they'd have thought I'd be pregnant by now and they don't know why they're not implanting. So devastated.

Thank you ladies x

Sorry it's a negative today, definitely try again the next 2 days.. sending you hope 🍀

You mentioned PGTA, was your last transfer a euploid? I didn't bother testing my embryos after my one and only euploid failure (thought to give them all a chance); but if you have tested and transferred a euploid, it might be an implantation issue. Have you looked into ERA? The ERA tells you your optimal implantation window.

I'm so sorry your test is negative this morning.

Thanks so much both. Really appreciate your messages.
I'm 9DP5DT today and again it was negative. I've actually come on my period and the clinic has said it could be implantation bleeding and to keep taking my meds. I feel quite gaslighted and ignored. I've stopped taking my meds as I just know I'm not pregnant.
I know you said some embryos can implant a little later on day 6, but I've personally never seen anyone saying they got their first positive on day 8/9 post transfer (unless it was the first time they'd taken a test)
I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm sure anything is possible in this ivf world. I'm just yet to come across this story which isn't just a Dr saying it rather than an actual example. I think Drs just don't want us to test early so they've fudged the implantation dates. Definitely feel free to prove me wrong though!!
Thanks for your support.
I'll be trying another transfer next month, I have three euploid embryos left. Xxx

I do believe you are out if you have full flow period so I'm very sorry for that but just wanted to tell you that late implantation can occur and can be successful, though i do believe its the acception not the rule. My 3yr old son was a late implanter. I had a fresh 3 day embryo transfer with him, I got what I thought was an indent line 9dp3dt, negative tests before this, I tested again at 11dp3dt and it was light but noticeable. I had my beta bloods done on day 14 and they were under 100 and told it might not be viable and as I said he is now 3.

IVFinLondon · 14/03/2025 15:10

Hi @Miraclemuma03, that is so good to know thank you! That gives me strength to wait longer to test and not worry about a negative result on day 6. So glad it was viable and that he's 3 now. Hopefully one of mine eventually implants. Thanks for all the advice x

Uff dont tread through your previous embryos yet, please check your thyroid and see if you have underactive or overactive thyroid, also perhaps check insulin resistance. Perhaps get a hysteroscopy to see if you have silent endometriosis, I can also think of maybe getting an ERA test done to determine the optimal time of transfer... you obviously make good embryos, so if the problem is not with the seed, it's gotta be with the soil. Best of luck to you!!

Hi OP @IVFinLondon how are you getting on since your last post. I’ve had a failed euploid FET and struggling!
