Husband semen analysis possible infection - delay to IVF?

For context we're about to try our 3rd round of ivf. Was hoping to start in January but clinic wanted my husband to have another sperm analysis done as it had been 6 months since his last one and the earliest appt they could offer was after my cycle was due, so delayed starting ivf until Feb.
Now been sent a letter from the clinic after his sample saying possible detection of infection and want him to do another sample which may lead to antibiotics. I've a horrible feeling if you have an infection/antibiotics they make you wait 3 months before starting ivf again. Any one able to confirm or had something similar? Can't stand the thought of waiting again.

HI @MA48, sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but was wondering what you went ahead with or if you found out the answer?

My partner had a recent semen analysis with a high amount of "round cells" which they said could either be white blood cells, indicating an infection, OR immature sperm cells. They have also asked for him to do another sample and they'll do a "semen culture" to get more info, as if it's an infection they said they'd then treat with antibiotics. HOWEVER they did say if we were going ahead on that cycle (with the large presence of round cells, possibly indicating an infection) then they'd recommend ICSI. So saying we could still go ahead even if there's this possible infection..presumably as they would select a good looking sperm..

So I'm wondering if that's something your clinic could recommend? Mine did not say anything about not being able to go ahead..

Hi @Rosiestraws and thank you for the reply! Turns out it was me catastrophising (how does your brain not in these scenarios?) and he did a 2nd sample which was fine. We are already having ICSI as I have low ovarian reserve and husband has low count & quality so maybe that's why they hadn't said much more to us? But that's great that has been your clinics response and means you can still continue too. Do you know when you'll be starting? Xx

Ah yeah maybe that's why they didn't explicitly say anything about what would happen as you could presumably still have gone ahead with ICSI.

Not sure when we'll be able to start yet as I need more bloods on day 2-5 on my cycle first as I have DOR and I had signs or early menopause last year during a very stressful time. Things have gone more or less back to normal but they're worried if I'll respond to the injections if my hormones are still all over the place so they want to check that. And my partner has a genetic condition so they need more info on that...so not smooth sailing yet!

@Rosiestraws fingers crossed you can get to the bottom of it with some more investigations and get the green light to go ahead before too long. I find the waiting the hardest part! Xx
