DNA fragmentation

Has anyone’s partner had a test for DNA fragmentation? I’m just wondering if it’s worth it, given that one of the main problems which causes it is lifestyle and lack of vitamins/antioxidants, which can be changed quite easily with the high quality vitamins etc? (Both currently taking proceive)

My friend and her partner did it and swore by it, but when we asked our clinic, they said they didn't see the need for us to do it or pay extra money.

We are doing ICSI so the sperm is handpicked anyway, so they said it probably wasn't necessary/wasn't something they thought we needed.

I felt quite a bit of pressure from my friend over it but everyone's situation is different, and I'm happy to go with what the medical professionals recommend.

My husband has also been taking 'proceed' and 'impryl' and there has been some improvement in his sperm quality which is good, since we have male factor infertility.

I would recommend it particularly if you have unexplained infertility. I have low AMH but my consultant did say my AMH level does not explain why we haven’t conceived yet since being off contraception a couple of years ago (i have regular periods, i ovulate every month) so really we were unexplained. That’s until my husband had a dna fragmentation test which then led us to see a urologist who diagnosed my husband of significant bilateral varicoceles and low testosterone. He will have the varicoceles treated end of this month via NHS. We wish we had done the frag test much earlier because post procedure we need to wait 10-12 weeks before we can cycle again to reap the benefits. There’s mixed evidence about the correlation of varicoceles to infertility so we can’t be certain if this is really causing our issues. Nevertheless we wish we had done the frag test much sooner and got my husband treated before our first ICSI cycle which ultimately failed. Again can’t be sure if our first cycle would have been successful had we done that but I feel like we could have had better chances.

Whatever you decide, best of luck!
