Low AMH Levels 32

Bloop123 · 25/11/2024 12:49

I’ve just had a check up after trying to conceive for a while and bloods have come back as low Amh levels for my age (32) they were around 5.

Naturally, i’m devastated and catastrophising. Does anyone know what this really means?

Am I going into early menopause? Will I ever be able to conceive?

the consultant kept reassuring me, saying that he would be more worried if I was older with good AMH levels. But everywhere I read tells me it’s an indicator of early menopause.

just looking for a bit of support I guess

I have low AMH for my age (when first diagnosed at 30 years old the level was 4 point something). Got and stayed pregnant at 31 after ttc for 3 years. Tried to have a second baby for 2 years and when that failed we got super lucky with our first IUI cycle. I was ovulating super early so natural conception was impossible (lining wasn't ready). The doctor added quite a few ovulation blockers in the process. Overall it was a long and painful road but we got there eventually. I wish you all the luck there is and don't give up!

@SonnySun so glad it all worked out for you in the end. Lots of hope for us all.

One thing my NHS consultant said yesterday is that, if my fallopean tubes aren’t blocked, she still wouldn’t bother putting me on letrozole and would just go straight to IVF, because she thinks as I have a regular period and get positive ovulation tests she thinks ovulation isn’t the issue.

However all my progesterone tests have been low (16, 18) and I always start spotting in my luteal phase…so surely while I wait for IVF it wouldn’t hurt to try an ovulation stimulator right? Just feels a shame not to try it in the months leading up to IVF (as I’m not eligible for NHS funding until May) if it could give that little bit more chance of conceiving naturally.

Anyway, I’m just thinking out loud really, every consultant seems to have a different opinion so can be baffling!

I have very very regular periods. Missed it once in my life (bad dieting experience) and my ovulation kits have always showed ovulation. Also I've got ovulation pains. And still I have diminished ovarian reserve and my FSH was high at the beginning of the cycle. Was yours FSH tested? I was on ovulation blockers from day 8 in my IUI cycle.
I haven't had a good experience with NHS in relation to fertility. Please advocate for yourself.

@SonnySun yeah thank you, think I’m going to just insist on them trying it, unless it could be detrimental I can’t see why we shouldn’t. Otherwise I may go private but apparently it’s £350 for a course of leterozole alone - yikes.

Yes my FSH was tested last year and this was normal - around 7 I think, so I’m just not sure what’s going on with my AMH tbh. I guess it may just be a genetical thing?

Do ovulation blockers just allow everything to develop a bit better? My endometrial lining was 4.7mm which he said was quite thin.

Just checked on day 3 my FSH was 5.7 and LH was 7.4.

I don’t know how much this can change in around a year but tbh I’m too scared to get it checked again unless they make me after all this.

Hi @ivfjourneyandme did you have your next scan? I hope it all went okay, thinking of you xx

@Bloop123 hey lovely, how are you?

I had a scan today (day 12 stims tonight) - really weird - I’ve had some grow and some shrink. Biggest are 17.9 and 12 and 12. Stinming for another 2 days and repeat scan

No idea if I’ll make it to egg collection or not!

Bloop123 · 09/12/2024 17:56

@ivfjourneyandme ah good luck, I guess that’s good news if one is past the 17mm mark?

im okay thanks, just waiting for an HSG procedure now which feels like an eternity

@Bloop123 the waiting is agonising. They found 10 follicles today but I doubt many will mature. Just have to wait and see I guess

Stressheadshouldbeinbed · 13/12/2024 15:22

My AFC was 2 (one follicle on each ovary) at 37, following 3 years of infertility, and it was suggested that I would have an early menopause and donor eggs were suggested. I was devastated, didn’t feel ‘ready’ for IVF and nothing the Dr said added up. She was very dismissive.

We carried on trying naturally and following months of research I started taking DHEA (25mg 3x day) and a routine blood test revealed a Vitamin D deficiency (which was rectified quickly) and my daughter was conceived when I was 38, followed by my son at 40. I’m 44 next week and am currently 22 weeks with my 3rd (also naturally conceived and as before, took DHEA and vitamin D prior to conception.)

Clearly I did not have an early menopause(!) And as many others have said, AMH/ AFC is only part of the picture.

louisl8 · 15/12/2024 08:02

AMH 0.7 at 35 years old after having daughter at 33 years old, 4 follicles in my left ovary every time I was scanned!

Husband had a higher than average sperm count though!

Fast forward to now I'm 39 years old and 23 weeks pregnant, all healthy Smile

We had given up and I thought I was at least peri but no I was pregnant.

We were told our only option was donor egg as the eggs I had if any were of poor quality, so that also made me anxious at the start of pregnancy.

Please don't give up hope Flowers

louisl8 · 15/12/2024 08:04

Forgot to add, i also had a polyp which I was

louisl8 · 15/12/2024 08:06

Scheduled to have removed, but after waiting a year it turned out they'd forgotten about me, when I went for a rescan after I had reminded them ( I had a feeling they had) it'd gone.

ivfjourneyandme · 15/12/2024 11:11

AMH of 1.9, just had total fertilisation failure on all 4 eggs collected 😭

Bloop123 · 15/12/2024 19:23

Thanks for your replies, @Stressheadshouldbeinbed what does DHEA do? Should I be taking it?

oh @ivfjourneyandme im so sorry to hear that, sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️, it’s such a hard thing to go through. Reading some of the replies on this thread though, it sounds like for lots of people it took a few rounds until success. I hope you’re able to rest xxxx
