Travelling with IVF meds - advice please

I’m just looking for some advice from those who have been through IVF. After trying for 2+ years with no pregnancies, I’m starting on the long protocol in mid December and all being well I should be starting FSH injections on 9th Jan! I travel across the country regularly with work and my boss has asked if I can do an overnight stay in London 13th/14th January. I know I will probably have to play it by ear based on whether I get any side effects from the drugs but I’d love to hear people’s views or experiences. I’m happy to go but I don’t know if it will be logistically challenging or if I’m just going to want to be close to home comforts. Thanks for reading!

Veteran IVFer here! I've been on countless weekends away over the last few years where I've had to bring my IVF meds with me. It's never a problem usually but have to be mindful of the timing of your meds/injections when planning work/activities. I just always make sure I bring absolutely everything (sharps bin and also spare meds just in case). I definitely wouldn't go abroad if I was on injections/meds as probably wouldn't be allowed in hand luggage and wouldn't want to risk losing anything. As for any side affects it's never really been an issue for me at all. Wishing you luck on your IVF journey!

Hello! I am on my first cycle and started stims last week. I feel absolutely fine! I am prone to migraines so was expecting those but if anything the stims have lessened my normal headaches. Good luck ☺️

Hi, lots of ivf here as well. Travelling with the meds is not a huge deal. The bigger issue you’d have is whether you are due to go for any scans or blood tests that mean you need to go to your clinic on those days. I’d check with your clinic what their standard is at the start of the cycle. Later in the cycle as you approach egg collection is unpredictable but the first 6-7 days tends to follow a standard scan/bloods schedule.

Good luck!

I’ve traveled several times abroad and within UK with my needles in my hand luggage and no one has even noticed during security. I’ve always carried a note explaining just in case, but never needed it.

Thanks all so much for all these responses, they’ve really reassured me. It’s good to know I’ll hopefully be able to carry on reasonably normally.

@Cosyseason1234 good luck to you too 🍀
