FET natural or medicated

I'm so confused and please need someone to explain it to me in very simple terms...

First fresh transfer failed so next step is unfreezing... do I go for natural or medicated FET?

How do I decide 🤔

Please can someone help 🙏

Sorry your fresh transfer failed. You doctor should be able to advise the best option for you or let you choose if both are fine for you.

If you have regular periods then you can do natural. You have less medication, so less side effects. Downside is you or the clinic won't have any/much control over it. It's possible to have completely natural FET or modified natural FET (where you are given trigger injection to make sure ovulation occurs).

Your clinic will be in control in case of a medicated one, so it's a good option if you have to time it perfectly with your leave etc. But the medications can have side effects.

In either case, your cycle can be cancelled due to medical concerns eg thin lining. Much of IVF is trial and error, you can choose one method and if it doesn't work, you can try the other option the next time.

Good luck 🍀

As the previous poster has said, your clock should advise on best options for you. I’ve had 1 successful medicated FET. I’ve subsequently had 2 unsuccessful natural modified FETs (chose less medication due to breastfeeding my DC from the successful transfer).
The lining etc has behaved similarly each time. I will most likely go for a medicated FET next time though as that has worked before and less concerned now about opting for less medication.

In terms of the process I thought either was fine. Preferable to a fresh transfer mentally in my experience as a bit of time has passed between the intense emotions of egg collection and waiting to know how many embryos you’ve got etc.

Thanks for the post, the clinic have advised either are fine and given me the option 😩

Are they open every day? Or at least Saturdays?
How often have they said you would need scans?

My personal preference was probably the medicated cycle because it was theoretically more predictable (but turned out very similar to natural cycle in my case).
My clinic is abroad so that probably influence my preference.

If there’s nothing else deciding it for you ask if either has higher success rates. It sounds unlikely though, my clinic said they were about the same.

I tried both, medicated and modified natural. The medicated one was first and I really suffered. Mood swings, palpitations, anxiety, bloating, etc, I’m just not great with too many hormones 🫣 It didn’t work.
The next time I explained how I felt and they recommended trying natural, but with a trigger ovulation shot. The Dr actually said that the success rates were marginally higher doing natural, but not massively higher. I felt loads better, in control and more like myself. I had energy and was looking after myself in the TWW. We got our BFP and I’m now 11w+3.
Everyone is different and you must do what you feel is right for you and your body. Good luck 🍀💓

Sorry I missed this! They are NHS so open every day, they have said I can start with a natural FET and switch to medicated if needed 🙏
