Clinic doesnt give embryo grades

Hi all!
We have had our first round of ivf with egg collection on monday. We got 22 eggs which resulted in 3 currently been frozen and 4 they are going to decide what do with tomorrow. When I asked about grading they said that grades dont matter so they just say good or not. Anything not rated good wont be frozen.

I was fully prepared for actual grades. Even on day 3 they said we had 1 excellent 4 very good and 8 average.

has this happened to anyone else? Maybe im fixating on something thst doesnt matter. I just want to know what shot we have- so i can prepare myself 😞

thanks in advance!

My clinic didn't give grades either. My understanding of grades is that it's how the clinic rank the embryos based on what they look like, how many cells etc on the outside. This gives no bearing on whether the embryo will actually implant which relies on the DNA/ chromosomal make up of the embryo. So unless you are doing PGTa testing, there's no way really of knowing.

I had an FET (no fresh due to developing OHSS) which an embryo my clinic said looked "good". It thawed at 100% and had started to expand. I am currently 24 weeks with our miracle (given 5% chance of ivf working). I'm glad we weren't told the grades as it would have given me something else to obsess over. We have another in the freezer which was slower to develop. So will be intriguing to see how that goes when we do decide to try for another.

Is this care fertility? I had the same, they just said good and excellent grades, got pregnant 1st frozen transfer but fresh hadn't taken. They will have their own system of heading and put back the one nearest hatching or hatching etc, good luck :)

@Mofeg My clinic did grade them but only A, B, or C. They told me that they didn’t bother freezing anything below a C because the success rate was low. So I’m guessing you’re excellent = A, very good = B and average = C? But I also agree with the others that it’s best not to stress about it. I had a FET with the ‘best’ one (it was even hatching on the day of the transfer) and it didn’t work, but with a lesser blastocyst it worked!
Best of luck 🍀

Care fertility give grades. At least the clinic in Bath did. I had to request them. The grades are between 1-3 with 1 being the highest, with two numbers the first being the inner cell mass and the second the trophectoderm and the first letters (EXP, HB, FB) mean expanded, hatching or full.

Eg HB 1.1 is the best grade.

I think this is a good thing. The grading clinics give is only really for the clinic and embryologists. Giving grading to patients means they compare and are more anxious. My friend had 7 embryo transfers and the worst “grade” became her little boy. The “better” ones didn’t work. And really they can only grade on the looks and behaviour of the egg rather than anything else - so I’d rather not know.

@Imisscoffee2021 I was with Care and they gave me a grade - it was the format the PP posted, but every clinic will do things differently.

How random! Care Woking didn't give me any grades, it was in 2022 so may have changed, or maybe because I didn't ask specifically.
